Social Security and how it effects you. It is not always what is mentioned, but what is not mentioned.
I have just finished reading another article on Social Security and have come to the sad conclusion that nothing has changed. Always lip service instead of results. Now the discussions are focused on three main elements:
1. Shift from wage to price indexing of past earnings. Why? Because prices grow slower than wages. 2. Increase revenue by raising the taxable maximum payroll ceiling. 3. Fund a saving subsidy for low income taxpayers.
More discussions, but little in the way of results. Well, what does it matter anyway? Of course, there is never any mention as to what happens to the Social Security paid in by those who never get to collect. Those unfortunately, who never reach retirement age. If Social Security is in such dire straights, then why is it being given out to any indigent or illegal with their hand out? Is it more like charity to a fault? Funny though, I have worked and paid in, as many others have. I am not entitled to my Social Security when the time comes. Why not? All of my adult life I have been told I would be, but alas I am not. Perhaps getting married has something to do with the decision. When my husband is of retirement age he would be eligible to collect his Social Secuity, except he will be collecting more on his pension. Sooooooooo his Social Security will be down-graded.Infact, he might not be entitled to receive it at all. This is exactly what has happened to a friend of mine! If I try to collect my Social Security, I will be turned away because my husband is bringing in TOO much money. Therefore I am not entitled to receive my Social Security. Could you imagine what a fiasco would occur if banks operated on this system? Let us imagine you faithfully deposit a portion of your hard earned money into your savings account every week for thirty five or so years. One day you decide to begin withdrawing from your savings account and your bank says you are not allowed. Think about it. Who is entitled to this money, you or the bank?
Thanks for reading this!
