Dallas: White Rock Montessori seventh, eighth-graders handle all aspects of soap business....

     Another article out of one of the local newspapers Saturday January 27, 2007.

     "Can a successful business be run in just ninety minutes a week? Students at White Rock Montessori School think so.
      The school's seventh and eighth-graders operate a profitable soap-making company, MS Garden Gifts.
      The company sells bar soaps that the students make with purchased glycerin and flowers and herbs grown in the class garden beds.
      The students manage every aspect of operations, including procurement, manufacturing, packaging and marketing. Middle school teachers Lauren Moore and Dianne Blanchard and environmental education teacher Sarah Weber adivse them."
     What can I say, but congratulations to this school for being so creative in their methods of teaching. This is just another fine example of what our school systems are capable of. To imagine they are doing all of this within a time fram of no more than ninety minutes a week.
      "They learn through trial and error; we don't rescue them,  Ms. Moore said. We could have set up a whole business for them, but it wouldn't be the same lessons."
      "We are trying to teach them the principles of business, Ms. Blanchard said. Tey learn there has to be a procedure and ther has to be follow-through."
      This article is but a small representation of what many schools are now endeavoring in. High marks for initiative and for the zeal to see it through. These students who participate in the program will walk away with a unique knowledge and self esteem  that will only aid them to excel further.
