Main trafficking routes in territories bordering Texas will be targeted.....

      From the front page section of one of my local newspapers....

      "The Mexican government will expand its anti-drug raids to two of its states across the border from Texas, deploying more than three thousand soldiers, sailors and federal police, officials said Sunday.
      The raids will cover Nuevo Laredo, a town across the border from Laredo that has been bloodied by turf wars among drug gangs in recent years.
      Starting over the weekend, two thousand thirty five soldiers, seven hundred fifty navy personnel and five hundred sixteen federal police were dispatched to Tamaulipas, home to the border cities of Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa and Matamoros, and the state of Nuevo Leon, where shootings of police have become more common.
      The federal government said the operation came at the request of the governors of those two Mexican states."
      This is really a very sad situation. Police and civilians are now being gunned down in the streets because the drug war lords are as determined as ever to conquer their territory, or what they deem to be their territory. What a sad state of affairs this whole mess is getting to be.
      "The raid in the two border states will focus on key points in the main trafficking routes, Devense Secretary Guillermo Galvan told a new conference. In the past, that policy has meant setting up highway checkpoints to search cars and trucks."
      How many more innocent civilians are going to be slaughtered for the sake of finding new drug routes? Babies are being kidnapped for the sake of an unpaid smugglers fees, families are being executed gang style and left to die in the streets, cars and vans are being shot at as if target practice was the new way to handle unpaid debts. This whole situation on both sides of the border is really escalating and there does not seem to be any solution to end it.
     "Officials also said that in the two months since intensive raids began in central and western Mexico, they have destroyed almost as many opium fields as plots of marijuana, long Mexico' principal drug crop."
      I give President Calderon high marks for at least making the attempt to clean things up. Lord knows he has his hands full right now.
