Recent discovery of 40 Brazilians second since trucker's life sentence....

      This article was from the Associated Press and inserted into one of my local newspapers on Thursday, February 22, 2007...

     "The discovery of 40 Brazilians loaded into a stifling tractor-trailer shows human smugglers are still attempting a tactic that led to the death of nineteen immigrants and subsequent life sentence for their driver, federal officials said Tuesday."
     "These unscrupulous smugglers created the perfect environment for tragic results," said Lynne Underdown, Border Patrol chief for the Rio Grande Vally sector."
     "Bordr Patrol agents discovered the immigrants Saturday at an inland highway checkpoint in Falfurrias, about seventy five miles north of the Mexican border."
     "A Border Patrol dog had alerted agents to the scent of people in the trailer, prompting a search."
     Guess I just cannot understand the "WHY" in all of this. I try to understand, but to no avail. I ask myself would I climb into the back of a sixteen wheeler and be willing to suffer untold atrocities?
     "As soon as those agents opened the back of the trailer, they could just feel the heat comming from inside," said Border Patrol spokesman Oscar Saldana."
     "The immigrants, including men, women and children, were found seated shoulder-to-shoulder along both sides of the trailer, which had neither refrigeration equipment nor windows. None requested medical attention and all were being processed for deportation."
     After enduring all of that, they are now being returned to the country, Brazil, from which they came. Some even traveled as a family! Would you subject your children to this?
      I was very pleased to read they were going to be deported back to their native country, but was saddened to for what they were willing to do. Sad for the children who had to endure this horrific trip at the hands of their parents.
