Hutchison, Cornyn worry plan amounts to amnesty.......

   We as a country have been  debating for so long as to the pros and cons of a revamped immigration bill.  Maybe I am just getting tired or rehashing and rehashing the same old topic when the conclusion is a very simple one.
   Once again I was reading one of many local newspapers and came across this one particular article that just makes me cringe. Why is it so difficult for our leaders to see how simple the solution to this problem is? Why does everything have to be presented as such a big deal and very complicated? Shame on them for dragging their feet and taking so long to do what is right and just for all of our citizens.
  "A week into the debate over a broad immigration package, Texas senators remain deeply skeptical and said Friday May 25, 2007 that they are frustrated they have not been able to strip provisions they view as amnesty for illegal immigrants."
   "As long as people feel like the only one whose voice that counts are the people who have enough money to hire lobbyists, or maybe a small core group of senators sort of making deals behind closed doors, this bill is going nowhere," said Sen. John Cornyn."
  "I am not going to support a bill, just any old bill, just to send the bill to the president. It has got to be a good bill. This bill does not meet that description. I do not know if it ever will."
   I realize that immigration is a sensitive topic these days, but it seems that we mix and mingle the terms to confuse people. There is a very large difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration. I am growing tired of the confusing terms being thrown around, such as undocumented workers and immigrants.
   Legal immigration is alive and well and thriving as it should be. Through legal immigration we as a country can control the volume of people entering our country. We are also able to assist them in learning how to adjust to a new way of life and in some cases a new language.
  Illegal immigration is just as it implies, illegal. Nothing more, nothing less. These are the people who are breaking our laws and thumbing their nose at all legal immigrants and citizens. Yes, I have heard all the arguments before, but it still does not make it right.
   These are the people who show disregard and disrespect to us right fron the beginning. Do you honestly think they will change their way of thinking? They are not the least bit interested in adjusting to our ways, they are only here for their own salvation.
  "Business groups are pressuring lawmakers to support the pact, unveiled last week after closed door negotiations between the White House and a bipartisan group of senators."
  "In Texas, a coalition called Texas Employers for Immigration Reform has launched a grassroots push to get the senators attention and Mr. Cornyn lashed out a bit Friday, saying that these interests have resisted workplace enforcement."
   Of course businesses are pushing for reform, they want to pay lower wages to increase their profit margins. If as a business they can acquire cheap labor they are all for it. The other side of the coin shows how the wages of legal immigrants and citizens have gone down, down, down.
   Now, do you honestly believe they are coming here illegally to take from us the jobs we no longer want? What jobs are we talking about here? What kind of jobs?
   They are not taking away jobs that we do not want. They are taking away jobs that once paid a respectable salary. Since they have come along our salaries and benefits have been on a steady decline.
   "He also expressed frustration that the dozen senators who hammered out the package have made it hard for critics to change the bill. He is insisting, for instance, on a provision that would exclude anyone who eludes a deportation order or re-enters the country illegally after being deported. Both felonies, from eligibility for the guest worker or citizenship tracks.
  "Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison also said Friday that she remains unhappy with the bill. In particular, she wants a "tough back" provision that would require illegal immigrants to return to their home country within eighteen months before they can apply for permission to work in the United States and get in line for citzenship."
  To place them at the head of the line would be a travesty to all legal immigrants. We keep being told that to round up all the illegals would be a monumental task and just cannot be brought to fruition, right? Yet, the illegals can be rounded up to be forced to abide by the laws of the new bill? Does this make sense? See what I mean, again they are talking out of both sides of their mouths.
   This bill as it stands is nothing short of giving "Amnesty". Will they include in this bill every human being from around the world? No, the current laws on the books still apply to everyone from around the world. The rest of the world must still follow the standing immigration path as has been set years ago.
   Then I must ask, is our country discriminating against all other people from around the world? Why is it, the current bill being discussed only applies to the citizens of Mexico? Sure sounds like discrimination to me.
  Why is it that we the citizens and legal immigrants of this country are expected to speak Spanish? It does not matter from which country you have come here from legally either. You will learn to speak Spanish. Yet, those illegal immigrants sneaking, slithering across the border in the dead of night to come here, are not expected to learn English? Why are they not expected to learn our customs? Why is it we must learn their customs? Am I making any sense here?
   Yet, buried within the bill is also a piece on protecting the borders. All I have to say regarding this is, PLEASE! Who do they all think they are kidding?
   On one hand you are telling us we are going to have an open door policy towards Mexico. On the other hand you are preaching on the many ways we can and will protect the borders. In true politician style, talking out of both sides of their mouths. You can not have it both ways!
