Recently, I was in prayer and I begin to ask God for something different, something new. A change, something different and new in the way of prayer. See, I was thinking that God was getting bored with my prayers. Could it be that I was getting bored with the words that I was speaking in the form of prayer?

            As I continued down this path, expressing that this is a new decade and because of this timing, there must be new words spoken in the atmosphere for the release of the “new” in the spirit. What new words? What will be the revelation that will come with these words? In the midst of this search I realized the timing that I was in. I realized that I was between two sacred Jewish feasts, Passover and Pentecost. I was between the resurrection and the outpouring of a new revelation for this time. Now this is something different, something new for me.

            In the first chapter of Acts, the obedient ones who were chosen and instructed to “wait for the promise of the father.” (Acts 1:4). These were those disciples who experienced something different, something new, when Jesus appeared to them after the resurrection in John 20: 19-23. Jesus appeared in His resurrected body in a room where the doors were shut. They saw the firstborn of the spirit.

            The first thing that Jesus said was “Peace be unto you.” (John 20:19). He actually spoke those words twice, which means that He was emphasizing peace. The first time that He spoke those words was to speak peace in the face of the fear that was attempting to rise in them. The second time was not only preparing them for the journeys that lie ahead, but also those words were a shield. You know when you have the peace that passeth all understanding, it is a shield to anything that the enemy would try because your mind becomes aligned with the words of Jesus.

            This appearance of Jesus was a preview of the coming attractions. Those who were shut in behind the closed doors received a special anointing for the assignment that they would be given. “Then Jesus said unto them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, receive ye the Holy Ghost.” (John 20:21-22).

            Can you imagine what went through the mind of the disciples? Talk about something different, something new. The resurrected Jesus, who had defeated the enemy and conquered death, breathed the power of the Holy Ghost upon them. This breath was from the one who spoke and commanded the winds and waves of the sea, caused a fig tree to wither and die, resurrected the dead, and cast out demons. The power of His breath was upon them and they did not even understand what was ahead.

            Jesus was sending them out with the power that the Father had sent Him with. For those who had seen the many miracles of Jesus, this was something new, something different. He imparted to them with the wind of His breath and the power first born was about to be multiplied on the earth.

            Jesus showed himself to them for forty days. He ate with them and even shared many mysteries of the scriptures pertaining to the Kingdom of God before He ascended. Have you ever wondered what He shared because He was in His resurrected body? He gave specific instructions, “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power form on high.” (Luke 24: 49).

            The waiting was with all one hundred and twenty on one accord in prayer and supplication. They waited day after day until it was fifty days. Waiting in worship, waiting for the Father to reveal himself in a promise that they could not even imagine the effect. It was something different, something new.

            Earlier in His ministry, many of the disciples of Jesus turned back. There were not able to receive the revelation of His teaching. They could not receive the mind of Christ. In the passage John 6:45-68, Jesus began to reveal, “I am the bread of life.” (v. 48). “This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.” (v. 50). These words, which were spirit and life, many disciples, were not able to receive and comprehend. “Many therefore of His disciples when they heard this, said, this is a hard saying; who can hear it?” (v. 60). Something different, something new indeed!

            Even though Jesus sensed that they were offended, He still spoke of another dimension. “What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where He was before?” (v. 62). This where the separation for preparation of those who would take the great journey ahead occurred. Jesus even told them from the beginning that they could not come to Him and receive Him as the gift of the Father except He had been revealed to them by the Father. “After this, many of His disciples drew back, (returned to the old associates) and no longer accompanied him.” (v. 66) AMP. Did they really want something different, something new or was it that they were not prepared even when it was happening right in front of them? Considering the many miracles that occurred during their walk with Jesus, one would always be in expectation, anticipation, and a hunger of what would be next? He introduced them to dimensions of the spirit that had not been seen.

            Now the time is upon us for signs, wonders, and miracles like never before. Will it be like those from the past that we have read about? No, it will be that which has never been seen or experienced. Will we draw back or will we answer with the words of Peter? “Then Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” (v. 68). Are we ready to receive an experience with the Holy Spirit that is something different, something new past what occurred on the day of Pentecost?

“Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.” (Acts 13:41.) KJV.
