Recently, I participated in an exercise with my friends at Club Christ Ministries, who are on the First Fruits prayer line at 5 am daily.  The requirement was to find and expound on five attributes of the character and nature of God that began with the first letter in your name. It was also required that you search the scriptures that would also apply. The fun part of this was that I was chosen to be the first to do this on the 5 a.m. prayer line this month and they had no idea of my real name. So when I started out with another letter, they were definitely surprised.

            My real or given name is Sara Rebecca, so I started with the letter S. I am named after both of my grandmothers. The interesting part of my heritage is who they were each married to. Sara was married to Nathan (a prophet’s name in the Bible), and Rebecca was married to Matthew (writer of one of the books in the New Testament). When I received the revelation of my heritage, I was in awe of such a divine orchestration!

            Because all of my life I have been known as Becky, it was naturally assumed that I would begin with the letter B. I must include a special note regarding the spelling of Sara. My grandmother was adamant that her name was to be spelled without the letter H at the end. I guess she wanted to add the element of distinction. Growing up, I did not particularly like the name Sara. But after becoming a Believer and finding out who Sara and Rebecca were in the Bible, I was enlightened with understanding the meaning of my name.

            I asked the Lord to give me the words which were attributes of His character that began with the letter ‘S’ that would allow me to know Him by that word. This first word that was given to me was ‘supernatural.’ The first thought is who is God? “God is a Spirit , a spiritual Being and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth reality.” (John 4:24 AMPC). He also makes the definitive statement, “I am God, and there is none like Me.” (Isaiah 46:9b). “For there is no one above who compares to the Eternal, not one of heaven’s creatures is like Him in the least.” (Psalm 86:9 The Voice).

            The next word was ‘skillful’ because I am fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. “God said, Let Us, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness.’ (Genesis 1:26a). The word image defines one as being a physical likeness or representation. His expertise for His masterpiece even includes the elements of predestination released in time from the eternal, which we are totally unaware of until we are reconciled through the divine connection of the blood of Jesus Christ. “Before I even formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew all about you.  Before you drew your first breath, I had already chosen you.” (Jeremiah 1:5 The Voice). And yet we still have not been able to understand the complexity of the systems of the human body, which the Master Architect designed as a triune being.

            Even though the original blueprint was intended to be a masterpiece, the exposure to certain elements in the earth realm which is fallen, have prompted the implementation of a continuous improvement process. He has been ‘steadfast’ and unwavering in His purpose for his people. “And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ right up to the time of His return, developing that good work and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.” (Philippians 1:5 AMP).

            During this process the vessel is to be made again another. “Whenever the pot the potter was working on turned out badly, as sometimes happens when you are working with clay, the potter would simply start over and use the same clay to make another pot.” (Jeremiah 18: The MSG). The vessel becomes marred or damaged to a certain extent preventing usage. Sometimes the Potter has to rework and enlarge the original design so that the vessel may be continually used. Depending upon the season, the shape and size of the vessel has to be changed because of the weight of what is to be carried is considerably more that the last season. The vessel needs more room to be filled of what is to be poured out.

            In the midst of everything, the Lord ‘sustains,’ which involves support and supply. “Fear not, there is nothing to fear, for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My victorious right hand of rightness and justice.”  (Isaiah 41:10 AMP). As long as you are in His hands, you can rest in His power, dominion and authority.  It is important for us to rest completely in Him as there is a resting place in Him for us.

            Our God is ‘secretive’. There are mysteries and wonders that He has yet to reveal to us. One of the most fascinating things that He revealed to a man named George Washington Carver is the discoveries of multiple inventions of products from peanuts. There are many things that God want to reveal to His people, but we must be in a place to receive them, especially in our mindset. “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a thing.” 25:2 AMP). That is the one of the reasons that the Word states that we must continually renew our minds, which is what the Word does.

We are so accustomed to the things of the natural (ordinary), that when the supernatural (extraordinary) invades from the realm of the spirit, the mind is not able to receive it. Secrets that contain divine mysteries, hidden truths cannot be expected to be explained by natural means. This privileged information, kept knowledge, is designed for limited access. As a Believer who is seated in heavenly places next to Jesus, I use my key9faith) to ask for and access that particular secret for this time in my life.

“The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” (Deuteronomy 29:29).

“And I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, Who calls you by your name.” (Isaiah 45:3).
