Recently I have been thinking about what type of inheritance I would leave for my children and generations thereafter. The mention of the word inheritance is generally associated with that which is natural and written in a will. “A good man leaves an inheritance of moral stability and goodness to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner finds its way eventually into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up.” (Proverbs 13:22 AMPC). This verse speaks to the volume of what is not being done in our society today.

            There is an inheritance that we should be leaving for generations to come that is more valuable than anything in the natural will. Parents must lead by example and demonstrate their faith in God for their children and others to see and to know. What if that does not happen? There has to be someone in the family somewhere that knows Jesus. This generation calls for the demonstration of His power in the life of an individual. They want to see the signs, wonders, and miracles. It is their hunger for the real that will cause the eruption. Authenticity and transparency in this journey adds weight to your words. It is all about being real!

            Looking in the right direction is the elevation of your sight beyond what you see. “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2). In this age of technology, there are so many devices and apps that are available for information with increased advancement. But what about spiritual advancement? Who will you trust in the storm or natural disaster? Where will you look for deliverance and security?

            In 2 Timothy 1:5, Paul speaks of the genuine faith that was first in Timothy’s grandmother Lois, then his mother Eunice and “now I am persuaded is in you also.”  Timothy’s inheritance was notable as it was the faith of two generations which was a critical factor in his spiritual development. He was exposed to the results of his grandmother and mother’s faith. He saw the manifested evidence of their belief. His family was an advertisement of the power of God working through and for them.

            I remember shortly after I moved back home when my mother passed and my sisters were preparing to divide many things among us and all I wanted was the family Bible. My concern was not about the jewelry, china, silver or etc. The Bible was a huge antique that had been in my family for about 120 years and had the Apocrypha, which are unknown books that have been excluded from the Bible. This was my generational blessings and I still have it today.

            There was a video on Face book recently showing a young boy praying diligently over another child that had been bullied. There were other children with him laying hands on this child. As I listened to his words, it was evident that he was the product of a home or church of prevailing passionate prayer. The words that he spoke would be what an adult would be speaking in prayer and they were anointed.

            These are the days in which there is an urgency that our children see and know the power of God in our lives. “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:5 KJV).  As I am writing this, I have just come through the latest hurricane, Florence. Two years ago I went through Matthew and ended up writing an article titled, “Witness Protection,” describing what I went through. All I can say is God did it and He did it again. I pray that my life is an advertisement of His immense power that I continually experience, which is demonstrated because of my faith. It is simple because I am a Believer.

“This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.”
