In reference to the movie called World Trade Center with Nicholas Cage.

"Someone needed help. It didn't matter who," are the words of a hero. True heroes don’t help others for recognition. Simply because people will focus on the person and not the extraordinary act itself. In the case of 9/11 a man rushed to the scene and came to help just as the second tower fell. For five years no one knew the identity of the US Marine who helped save the lives of Port Officers Will Jimeno and Sergeant John Mc Loughlin. No one knew the name of the Marine who for 2 ½ weeks return everyday to volunteer to help.

Fast-forward to early August 2006. The now 32 year old US Marine is sitting in his home when he saw the trailer for the movie, World Trade Center. The movie revolves around the Port Officers he helped save. The Marine reluctantly stepped forward to solve the mystery of the man who helped out without being asked. When he did many people were upset, some were shocked, not at the Marine. They were dismayed at how wrong Hollywood got the facts.

If you do watch the movie, he’ll be pretty hard to point out. The casting of Jason Thomas is one of the biggest mistakes of the film. Jason Thomas, the African American US Marine, was 27 at the time of 9/11. In the film, Jason Thomas is portrayed as a 41 year old Caucasian man. Tom Cruise’s cousin William Mapother was cast to be Jason Thomas in the film that opened August 9th.

Sgt. Thomas laughed about the mix up. Other’s felt the producers knew what they were doing since they spoke with the men Thomas helped rescue. The main concern is that people in the future generations will take this movie as an accurate portrayal of what happened that day. The casting mistake is not the only inaccurate account of the film. It is a movie after all and all of what went on that day could not fit into one film.

Sgt. Thomas did not save or help the people in need for the recognition and has not yet seen the movie. The reason why he left so abruptly after the 2 ½ weeks is because it became a drain on him and he just wanted to forget. Seeing the movie would be too soon. "I didn't want to relive what took place that day," he said in an Associated Press interview.
