You can't force someone to be ready for something before they're ready. Maybe if _______ had been two years older or if I hadn't been in Vietnam at all she and I would still be together, married with two kids. But I simply couldn't wait. It had something to do with Vietnam. A guy goes through the war and you get to know a lot of other guys, nice young guys just like you and just like you they have all kinds of hopes and dreams. See what I mean? You're nineteen years old and at night under your mosquito netting you stay awake sweating and sick with fear because it could have been you in one of those body bags just as easily. Maybe next time it will be you. In my mind body bags and women were all mixed up together. I knew if I could have a woman, any woman, I'd start to get better. Prostitutes didn't count. Neither did "self abuse." A woman had to want to be with me just like I wanted to be with her. The memory of those body bags and what was in them would not be so frightening.
I know being in Vietnam forever changed my uncle, I was not born then, but my Mother and Aunts, as well as my Nonna told me of the changes in him

Join me as we travel together on the road called "Aging." I will be sharing my personal experiences with you and offer ideas on how we can better navigate the complex byways of our older years. Grief, healing, generations, ancestors, and more.
