In the article "How To Get Published" in my den I set some pretty high standards for publication. But, hey, if it was easy to get published it wouldn't be worth getting published. Still, it does take energy and time to write a good, publishable story. Here's what to do.
Instead of writing four or five stories a month that you spend, let's say, an hour or two on each story write two stories that you spend two or more hours on each. You see my point? It's better to produce one good story a month than three okay stories a month. The okay stories will not get published. The one good story has a shot. And you don't have to do the one good story in one sittng. As a matter of fact it's "better" to work on that one story over a period of a few weeks "one or two hours at a time."
So that you're spending the same amount of energy and time in writing one or two publishable stories as you're spending on four or five stories that will be rejected.
I really love this advice!! I have been writing for a long time. It is a passion of mine! I think that it is better to produce quality work than quantity!!
i completely agree, too. it's more difficult for me personally since i'm not such a young writer or reader and feel the pressures of time limitations moreso than the younger generations. all your articles are relevant and play an important role.
That is excellent advice. I couldn't agree more. Sometimes, I find it helps to put a story away for a couple weeks even and come back to it, read it again, and see it in a different mind set. Also, I spend alot of time away from the keyboard or pen thinking about the story doing my everyday things and that can lead to revelations or new developments. Thanks for the article.
