I was pondering this question today, Why do people fear death? There are many possible reasons. Death is the end of everything we have ever consciously known. It is the great unknown. Humans always seem to fear and draw back from the unknown. Those of us who have had near death experiences know that there is something beyond this life, life beyond death.
Death is the decay of our physical bodies and our physical bodies are what we have experienced everything in. We have a very dim and conflicted idea of what life without a physical body would be like.
Some think when we die, that it's the end of everything, we are annihilated, ended, kput, over, done. Some believe in a resurrection of the physical body, but even with that belief the body will be changed, not the same as it is before death. Many believe in reincarnation, that the spirit returns many times in many forms. Some, who have listened to a lot of hell and brimstone sermons believe that after death you either go to heaven for eternal bliss or hell for eternal torment, if you believe this you better make sure you have done what it takes to escape the latter.
If death is a part, a natural part of life why fear it? It will come to us if we fear it or not so why waste precious time in trepidation about death? Death is one of those things that no amount of worry will change.
Some people die suddenly or quietly with little pain. Some suffer unbearably, most of these people have lost their fear of death and welcome it as a release.
Personally I don't see death as an enemy but as the natural ending of this life and the beginning of another for the spirit which is the true essence of who and what we are. To me that is an exciting concept and not something to fear.
THIS IS MY PHILOSOPHY; STILL BEING IN HUMAN FORM WE'RE GOING TO HAVE SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE UNKNOWN. BUT THE LINE IS THIS; GOD GAVE ME MY FIRST BREATH. WHATEVER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, GOD WILL BE THE ONE TO TAKE MY LAST BREATH. I CAN'T CHANGE IT AND I CAN'T STOP IT. I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING AND WHO AWAITS ME. BUT, I DON'T TEMPT GOD. I DON'T TAKE RIDICULOUS CHANCES JUST TO SEE HOW STRONG HE IS OR PROVE HOW BRAVE AND FEARLESS I AM. I'LL LIVE UNTIL GOD SAYS...I DON'T. OF THIS...I'M NOT AFRAID. VERY INTERESTING AND THANKS FOR SHARING, LA BELLE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Exactly! As sure as we are to take our next breath, we will die. It's one thing we can count on........and then.........please remain seated until the ride is through!!
Although there are many unknowns uncovered every day, what happens after death, in spite of hearsay stories from those who claim to have been there, is still unknown. Right now, it seems to be a matter of, "belief." And there are systems of belief that people can grab onto to allay their fear.
Personally, I don't fear death at all. I do fear pain because I found some of it rather unbearable. And, as I age, my body keeps coming up with more creative ways of giving me pain from itches that I can't scratch to spasms that border on seizures.
Like you wrote, for me, death will probably be a welcome relief. Right now I feel comfortable with what I've accomplished so far and have no concern about whether I live longer or not. Until then, I'll keep on writing…
As you say, it's the great unknown and generally speaking, people don't like (are afraid of) the unknown because it takes us out of our comfort zone. Also, there is a finality to deal that seems so absolute, particularly if you have a belief system that doesn't embrace the afterlife. Then, understandably so, many people are terrorized of losing it all so to speak. Yes, it's a ponderable question that we must all come to terms with in one way or another. Thanks for raising the question. John
Intuitively, I know I've lived many lifetimes, and none more interesting than the one I'm living now. However, being born an old soul somehow did not excuse me from the same job I share with you and that is learning to craft a positive attitude about
