I am not affiliated with any political party. I consider myself an independent. I have voted liberal and I have voted conservative. When I see things going too far in a direction, I vote the opposite in hopes of obtaining balance in government. I have never resorted to name calling of those who hold a political view that differs from mine, if you have then all I can say is, shame on you for increasing the distance that divides us. It's time for some respect for each other and each others views. When we demonstrate that we cannot have respect for others we show our own ignorance. I've had a lot of progressive ideas and ideological thoughts but things have gone too far in recent years. The middle class has been pushed into oblivion.
Struggling just to survive with their jobs being taken by illegal immigrants, or shipped to other countries. Their health care has skyrocketed in price and deteriorated in quality. The American dream has become a pipe dream for too many people. This is the plight of the common man, the middle class. They get none of the benefits of the poor, unless they become poor. No one pays their bills, gives them free health care, free education for their children, free housing. They would have to be illegal immigrants to enjoy those government benefits paid for by their taxes. This country was built by immigrants but it's time for people to immigrate legally and do their far share, pay their taxes, support themselves. I have not seen one instance where socialism worked for very long, it won't work for America either. It's time to put on the brakes before it goes too far to pull back to constitutional values. Without borders, there is no country, without rules that apply to all citizens there will be eventual anarchy. There is no way on earth we can vet thousands of Syrians who will be flooding into this country, unless somebody puts American lives and welfare about globalism and political correctness. I'm tired of seeing our people hacked and shot to death by muslim radicals. So go ahead and continue to call me those names like stupid, dumb, uneducated, deplorable and a host of others, because I voted conservative this time. I'd rather hear you disrespect me than see my country go another step closer to socialism. The way I see it, it is not a personal reflection on my intellect or yours, on my morality or yours, it's what we see differently and how we feel we must vote. Stop complaining. Whether you accept it or not Mr. Trump is your president as surely as Mr. Obama has been the president for all of us for the past eight years and if we are too far apart to pull together at least stop the disrespect and name calling, at least try to heal the wounds rather than slicing new ones. As for the popular vote, there were at least four million fraudulent votes cast in this election.
Ron you will never see any view but your own and I don't share it. What I feel is not fear but the need for common sense. Ron you are part of the academic world, you don't live in or understand the blue collar world. It is NOT jobs that Americans shun that are being taken by illegal immigrants. I know from personal experience in the blue collar world I am close to that many construction jobs are gone for our citizens because immigrants have taken them so don't try to tell me any of that crap about Americans don't want to work.
So many agree with you because they have unwarranted fears from a psychological malady that Alvin Toffler pointed out many years ago, future shock.
While government can produce government projects that you may call socialism and I might call good government jobs, laissez-faire government that doesn't touch unbridled capitalism can't and won't bring back "good" jobs.
Intelligent machines are rapidly taking jobs that were once thought only able to be done by humans. I can cite many examples like self driving vehicles eliminating cab and truck drivers. Secretaries are almost completely gone and executive assistants are close behind. Drones and robots are replacing soldiers for good reason. They save lives.
The corporations are global and always seek the lowest-cost way of getting things done (providing cheap goods and services for the insatiable masses). Hiring humans is costly, messy, and often, less reliable.
So, the problem isn't immigrants who take the few low-paying jobs that our middle-class, wanting to be rich, citizens refuse to do because of working conditions like hot sun, sweat and physical strain that they would rather do in the gym than on their own front lawns. Immigrants are the scapegoat for our failure to see the problem.
I've been watching "One Hundred Years Of Living Dangerously" on the National Geographic Channel. The program clearly shows how we, primarily the United States, Europe, Japan and now other countries, like China who want to be like us, are rapidly destroying our planet in the name of prosperity. Politicizing science instead of understanding it. The new administration will double down on that false promise and step up the deadly activity.
You don't like socialism, but we are rapidly creating a feudal society similar to what happened in France prior to the French Revolution in 1789. Unless we can come up with a way to satisfy all of those unemployed and underemployed people resulting from very rich decision-makers in corporations, the problem will only get worse and the people only get more angry. The very people who you say and I know voted for Trump. If you think protest now by intelligent young people is in bad taste, wait until all of those gun owners start taking what they think is theirs in anarchy (they are robbing banks already in record numbers) or downright revolution. Tasteful conversation will be gone altogether.
