Deputy sheriff fired for filing a false report about his gunshot wounds.

Just yesterday I reported a story about a couple of bad cops as reported by various news organizations. The story was about a cop arrested for dwi while driving a police vehicle and a police chief arrested for allegedly attempting to trade drugs and also charged with auto theft.

This morning I awoke to many emails from readers in Mississippi, particularly northern Mississippi. So here we go again. By the way, you may google the full story. Keyword, John Staggs.

On December 27, 2007, at 7:30 pm, a  Desoto County Mississippi deputy by the name of John Staggs 28, was on duty at a boat dock that was experiencing some problems with theft/vandalism when he reported a shooting. Desoto County is located in northern Mississippi, not far from  Memphis, Tennessee. 

He claimed that he was shot by unidentified assailants in his arm and shoulder. The areas in Desoto County, including the areas in the neighboring state of Tennessee went on high alert to locate the suspects.

The sheriff of Desoto County, Bill Rasco, has just announced the firing of deputy John Staggs! Sheriff Rasco stated that his deputy lied and faked the shooting. In other words the deputy shot himself! 

This deputy had the Desoto County Sheriff Department, the Memphis Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff Department, the Tunica County Sheriff Department, and the Mississippi State Police chasing individuals that didn't exist.

The chief and some others are entertaining the thought "not" to press criminal charges. They say the deputy has been through enough already. What? Anyway many people are upset with this. People are saying if it was a common citizen they would be charged with filing a false police report! What do you think should happen? As I've stated in many articles, I'm not anti-police but all law enforcement departments must adhere to lawful and moral policies.This means no running red lights to go to Mc Donalds. Don't make u-turns in the middle of the street to go to Burger King. Don't turn on your emergency lights just to grab a cup of coffee. 

Here's a thought. I'm glad a couple of individuals weren't anywhere near this cop when he reported the shooting. He could have possibly lied on them and planted a weapon on their person! It's even possible he could have shot someone to help bolster his story. Suppose it was you or a loved one nearby? Scary thought huh?  Please, watch your backs!
