My twin sister & I were bored one day,
Sitting in the house with nothing to do.
Whoever thought things would happen that way,
Wind up in a mess 'fore the day was through!

It was another boring day at our place. Nothing to read, nothing on TV, we'd already eaten...what in the world could we do to relieve our boredom?

I got the hair-brained idea to go to the local hospice thrift store...they always have good books at fairly reasonable prices. Let's go build up our library!

Little did we know that going to the thrift store could be such an adventure. Or wind up so painful. But...leave it to me!

I was wearing a pair of sandals that should have been thrown out a long time ago. (I mean a L-O-N-G time ago.) They were worn out, BIG time. But they were so comfortable...I felt like I was "barefeeted" (as I always say). I wear shoes until they are positively worn OUT. (Gonna get my money's worth!)

So--here's me & my shadow (twin, of course!) are at the thrift store. There are several shelves with rows & rows of books on them...some of the rows had books two & three deep. Have to move some of them to see what's behind.

I moved...& the biggest book there avalanched off the shelf.

Right onto my bare little toe that was shyly peeking out of the sandal.

I'd TRIED to catch the book. I missed. It DIDN'T miss my toe.

Squished that sucker flat.

OW--PAIN LINES!!! (You know those lines that pop up between your eyebrows when something hurts? I had some SERIOUS lines...they were gonna have to issue a "severe pain warning.")

I started crying. I started laughing. (Didn't know which to do first, so I did both.) I reached down to protect my poor abused toe. It was swelling up & turning pretty shades of blue & purple. Dang...I'd really MASHED it.

My twin asked me what was wrong. "I broke my toe!," I cried/laughed out. "I think I broke my toe!! I was moving some books to see what was behind them & that danged book fell off the shelf & onto my toe!"

She picked the book up. It was entitled, "When Animals Attack."

(That poor little toe still gives me fits once in a while.)

Same sandals, different story.

I smoke. Yeah, I know it's bad for me, but it's hard to quit! I have cut down...well, anyway, I had run out of smokes, so I decided to walk to one of the local gas stations & buy some. Put on THE sandals.

You'd think I'd learn...DUMMY.

I get there, buy a couple of packs. On the way out, I walked through a puddle. My feet got wet.

There was a "low" spot. Went to step over it. My danged foot slid inside the sandal & down she went.

I fell. Hard. TimBER!!!

Landed on a piece of metal, right on my elbow. (Actually, below it about two inches.)

I jumped up as fast as I could, looking around to see if anyone saw my fall. Thank God, no one did. (Don't you HATE it when someone sees you fall? There they are, laughing their butts off...you're embarrassed enough, don't need anyone laughing at your expense!!)

Why is my elbow hurting? I looked down...it's bleeding! Not bad, but I'd definately cut myself...the metal had gouged in kinda deep. I have a little first aid kit in my purse; got that out & cleaned the cut up, put antibiotic cream on it, & covered it with a gauze bandage. Put pressure on it to stem the bleeding. Didn't take long to stop.

Got home, redid the first aid thing. (I couldn't be too careful.) Wouldn't have to get a tetanus shot, I'd just had one the week before. So, I did what I usually do...take care of myself & spare the expense of having to go to the hospital! (Have a nasty inch long scar right below my right elbow.)

The next thing I did? Threw those danged-blasted sandals AWAY!!!!

They'd wore out their welcome.
