Why Donald Trump is Winning in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination

There has already been an enormous amount of debate and punditry among conservatives, evangelicals, Republicans and within the Tea Party about who would best be the Republican candidate for president in November.  We have all heard and read criticism, accusation and blame as well as specious charges against the faith, intelligence and patriotism of Trump supporters in the presidential race of 2016.  A few of these have merit, but most do not.  Too many are intentional below-the-belt blows by angry proponents of Cruz or Rubio or critics of Trump who spew their bile broadly across the conservative or evangelical landscape. 

Many Americans are angry, and with good reason.  They have watched as politicians of both parties or no party, steal their wealth, abridge their rights and mock their faith and character.  But when one’s focus is blurred by rage, improving any situation is rarely the natural result.  We quickly forget that the power to create lasting beneficial improvement in this country is fully within our power. 

It’s neither scandalous nor blasphemy to say that the 2016 presidential campaign will not have an immediate significant impact on the lives of very many people, one way or the other.  In fact, those of us who have been paying attention for the past seven years may well doubt that any Republican candidate elected by the people will actually assume the office in January of 2017 without conflict.  Nevertheless, the American people own this country--not the government officials who feed off of the taxpayers.  When we forget this fact, we become willing slaves of the government we employ.

Barack Obama won elections in 2008 and 2012 primarily because Republicans failed to produce strong alternatives and because conservatives failed to engage our Democrat friends, neighbors and co-workers with the facts about the Illinois Senator, community organizer and fraudulent presidential candidate.  If we repeat these mistakes, Obama will win a third term under the name of Hillary Clinton.

Senator Ted Cruz has most of the right answers that conservatives and evangelicals have longed to hear from a Republican candidate.  But Ted Cruz has been challenged to prove his eligibility for the office of president.  He was not born of two American parents.  Additionally, many of his responses to debate questions as well as his post-debate statements have been pathetically childish and ridiculous.  There is good reason that U.S. Senators rarely make effective presidents.  The office of president requires the quality of leadership which Ted Cruz clearly does not possess.

Senator Marco Rubio is young, attractive and an American political success.  He is a great debater and a fine orator, and can be passionate and eloquent in his speeches.  But he lacks credibility on the issue of illegal immigration because of his thoughtless involvement with the notorious “gang-of-eight” senators that proposed a comprehensive immigration reform package.  Rubio has the same eligibility problem that Ted Cruz has.  He was not born of two American citizens.  Neither is Marco Rubio a leader. 

Donald Trump has many problems.  His Christian faith has been questioned, his conservative pedigree is cloudy at best, and his history of supporting Democrat candidates does not help him with the Republican core.  But Donald Trump is unquestionably a natural-born citizen, an American success story and a leader with a long history of accomplishing what he sets out to do.  These are things that no other candidate can claim.     

When he began his campaign, Donald Trump promised to build a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico and make Mexico pay for it.  Ted Cruz adopted this idea for himself after Trump announced it.  Trump promised to repeal Obamacare--that multi-trillion-dollar failure that is breaking the back of the American economy and which has helped no one outside Washington D.C.  He claims to know how to fix the economy by making better foreign trade deals--a subject he wrote a best-selling book about.  Donald Trump has also promised to defeat ISIS militants who are beheading Christians in Syria, Iraq, Libya and elsewhere.  Those four accomplishments would be a phenomenal first-term record for any president, and Donald Trump projects the confidence that he can get them done.

The reason that Donald Trump will be the 2016 Republican nominee is that Americans who have built families and careers within the law, who have been faithful in their churches and their communities and served in defense of this country have had enough of political promises that go unfulfilled once the elections are over.  Too many Republicans have gone along with Democrat politicians in burying the futures of American citizens under massive wasteful public debt, offering excuses instead of results.

It’s easy to lose focus at this point in a presidential campaign season, but some professing Christian conservatives forget who the real enemy is.  The Democrat party is devoted to evil of every kind--craven in its lust for power and sinister in its callous disregard for human life.  Hillary Clinton is a known criminal.  Her callous negligence cost American lives in Benghazi and her email scandal proves that she cannot be trusted with the nation’s most vital secrets.  Bernie Sanders is a well-known and self-avowed socialist.  We cannot afford any of his policies.  Our national network media is actively burying these facts from the public.  We cannot allow them to succeed.

Super Tuesday is just days away and we will soon know who the Republican candidate will be.  I would caution supporters of Cruz and Rubio, Ben Carson and John Kasich to save their heaviest fire for Democrats rather than wasting it on Donald Trump.  We are still the good guys here.  The worst among us is still better than the best on the left. 

Whoever the Republican presidential candidate is, he will need all of our support.  There will undoubtedly be widespread voter fraud in November.  Only an overwhelming turnout will defeat the enemy.  Every one of us knows people who vote for Democrat candidates and call themselves Christians, conveniently overlooking that party’s support for abortion, sexual perversion of every kind and illegal immigration.  Advocates of  Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio would do well to question their Christian faith instead of that of Donald Trump. 

This may be our last opportunity to save the republic from total collapse.  It’s often said by non-Christians, “the Church is the only organization that shoots its wounded.”  We cannot allow this charge to be validated now.  If we don’t regain our focus before November, we all lose.
