Democrats' curious emerging contempt for sexual assailants should fool no one. This new episode of fake political outrage will not last.

Were it not so personally devastating to victims, the apparent sudden awakening of liberals to the gravity of sexual assault that is sweeping America might appear to be a ridiculous parody of our postmodern culture.  But that is not the case.  The lives of female and male victims of these vile offenses are often permanently altered in ways that are deep, profound and inescapable. 

The flood of sexual assault and harassment allegations being revealed in the liberal strongholds of Hollywood and New York are multiplying by the week.  Reports have now extended to Washington, DC where Congress is investigating cases of misconduct dating back to 1996.  The cut-off date is interesting because it conveniently excludes the numerous  sexual assault charges against former-President, Bill Clinton. 

The epidemic of public scandals is troublesome for liberals who have actively buried far more serious accusations than those we are now hearing, and who have snidely questioned, mocked and personally attacked those who brought them to light.  Now, the avalanche of public complaints is putting political hacks in the leftist news media in the awkward position of being confronted with their own statements and actions against prior victims as they now seek to demonstrate compassion for more recent ones.

Film makers and television producers have spent millions of dollars profaning human sexual relations in countless scenes that depict men and women ripping away one another’s clothing and slamming themselves against a wall or onto a desk or table.  These episodes usually conclude with partners leaving one another’s company looking pleased with themselves.  They present the false impression that people commonly enjoy such callous and abusive treatment.  Trivializing sexual relations in this way has not escaped the notice of children and young people.

Ironically, liberals in the media and Washington are now attempting to posture themselves as public arbiters of morality even though their own licentious worldview and sexually exploitive policies have created the situation we see today.  Why the reversal?  Because to liberals, every tragedy can be deformed into a means to achieve a political goal.

For the most part, sexual assault charges have involved liberals with the notable exception of U.S. Senate candidate and Alabama’s former Chief Justice, Roy Moore.  The Washington Post has reported that a number of women accuse Judge Moore of sexual assaults that date back nearly forty years.  The suspicious timing of the Post’s reports cannot be overlooked however, coming just one month before the Alabama special election for the senate seat vacated by Attorney General, Jeff Sessions.  Judge Moore has denied all of the accusations and says he can prove that they are baseless. 

Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell wasted no time in calling for Judge Moore to “step aside” in the face of the charges.  He has been joined by nearly twenty other senators and congressmen.  The Senate Republican Campaign Committee has taken the unusual step of withdrawing its support for Judge Moore’s campaign. 

U.S. Senator, Al Franken (D) of Minnesota is one of the latest offenders to be exposed with photographic evidence of one of his assaults being made public.  In response to the charges against Franken, McConnell offered no similarly harsh condemnation, but said only that they should be investigated. 

McConnell’s distinction between these two cases is troubling.  Congress itself, has effectively given its members a pass for sexual assaults that occurred more than 21 years ago, but is already making a specious exception in the case of Judge Roy Moore.  For more than twenty years, Judge Moore, a born-again Christian, has publicly demonstrated that he is steadfast and uncompromising in matters of moral law and the original intent of the U.S. Constitution.  This makes him a threat to corrupt Washington politicians in both parties.
 
The Bible says, “he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.”  Judge Moore has a target on his back.  Both Democrats and establishment Republicans are desperately trying to defeat him.  We shall soon see if Moore succeeds.  If he is God’s man, he will. 

In the meantime, Republican attacks raise more troubling questions about Majority Leader McConnell and his senate colleagues than they do about the integrity of Judge Roy Moore.  And the fact that an upright man presents such a serious threat to people in our culture indicates how depraved we have become as a nation. 

If there was any reason for hope that America might be waking up to enormous human cost of sexual assault or the stunning hypocrisy of the godless Left, it was dashed by the events of last week.
