Will we be a noble race of freemen devoted to truth or a collection of pathetic individuals subject to demagogues? Time is running out--Tic-Toc.

A long-standing joke among foreign diplomats is that the American approach to international affairs essentially involves offering a solution before a problem is identified.  This kind of arrogance in the face of abject ignorance is not limited to foreign policy matters, but has seeped into politics, media, our culture, and even the Church. 

The controversy surrounding sexual assault allegations against former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice and U.S. Senate candidate, Roy Moore, illustrates a dangerous defect in our culture.  Most disturbing is the bizarre reaction of politicians and the public at large to the forty-year-old, unverified and perhaps, unverifiable charges never before revealed.  It’s as if we have become more concerned with forming an instant opinion, even if it’s wrong, than discovering the truth or simply withholding judgment. 

Every aspect of American society has been polluted with political opinion.  Science, medicine, media, law and religion have all been perverted with political subjectivism, making it far more difficult to distinguish between truth and a lie.  As a result, how we feel about an issue, rather than its veracity, has become the gold standard of belief.  News media networks have become masters at manipulating a perspective to achieve the desired result.  Some foolishly claim that perception is reality.

The reflexive condemnation of Judge Roy Moore over scurrilous and unprovable charges by sitting senators and congressmen demonstrates the power of perception over reality.  Who can possibly defend himself or herself against such accusations?  Some say that because there are numerous allegations, they should be believed.  Is multiplicity of accusations a legitimate standard of proof?  Would any of us willingly be subjected to such a diabolical standard?

Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell and senators, Ted Cruz of Texas, Mike Lee from Utah, Steve Daines of Montana and Tim Scott of South Carolina have all rescinded their endorsements of Judge Moore as a result of the scandalous charges against Moore.  But their actions speak more loudly against their character than Judge Moore’s.  

America is a bifurcated nation today.  Democrats and liberals possess no moral authority or personal integrity, but will dutifully counterfeit both when necessity arises.  They celebrate depravity and callously defend the sinister extermination of the innocent and the inconvenient.  What they do have is unity of purpose: to dominate the government and control the lives of the people they rule over. 

Conversely, Republicans and Christian conservatives are the national guardians of virtue and the rightful heirs of moral authority.  But they lack a common goal.  They refuse to condemn the evil intentions of their ideological and political opponents, preferring to attack one another instead.  In doing so, they simultaneously offend their supporters and demean themselves. 

Over the past forty years, we have seen Democrat Senator Ted Kennedy, embroiled in scandal surrounding the death of his mistress, retain the support of his constituents.  Kennedy escaped personal accountability and went on to smear two Supreme Court nominees with unsubstantiated charges of sexual harassment and political assassination.

Former Democrat president and serial sex-offender, Bill Clinton, was impeached, stripped of his license to practice law, and charged with obstruction of justice while avoiding removal from office and criminal prosecution.  The obscene duplicity that exists in our political system and our society cannot be sustained.  It must be eradicated.   For we will either uphold a single standard of truth and a uniform code of conduct by ferociously enforcing them, or we will condemn ourselves to horrendous injustice. 

Minnesota Democrat Senator, Al Franken, refuses to resign despite incontrovertible evidence of sexual assault.  Meanwhile, Republican leaders willingly jettison support for Judge Moore in the absence of any such evidence. 
 
In due time, the truth regarding Judge Roy Moore will be revealed.  When that day comes, few will recall who was first to betray Judge Moore.  However, if the charges are found to be false and shown to be yet another political dirty trick perpetrated by the Washington Post and sponsored by Democrats, those cowardly few who refused to stand with a beleaguered righteous man will be ruined by their own lack of integrity. 

Ultimately, the American people must decide what sort of nation we will be—either a noble race of freemen devoted to truth, or a collection of pathetic individuals holding a myriad of contradictory beliefs and unique perspectives dominated by demagogues.
