Above 3 min. video: Listen to Sinatra's opening act comedian tell the story.
At age 78, Frank Sinatra was still doing concerts. Audiences came to say good-bye to him. One night, in front of 20,000 people Sinatra got to his fourth song and suddenly couldn't remember the words. The orchestra kept playing, but Sinatra started whispering into the mike, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Tears came to his eyes.
Soon the orchestra stopped playing and there was an eerie silence as Sinatra continued whispering, "I'm sorry. So sorry." His handlers were preparing to come out and walk him off the stage. but Sinatra started walking off.
Suddenly, one lone man in the balcony stood up and yelled, "That's all right, Frank. We love you. That's all right." He started to clap. Slowly, the rest of the audience started to clap. Soon the entire audience was cheering.
By this time, Sinatra was at the edge of the stage walking off, but he stopped, turned, walked back to center stage and started singing Mack the Knife.
According to opening act comedian Tom Dreesen:
"Frank really drilled that song, hitting every nuance and lyric like he was 19 years old again. When he finished the song, the people didn't stop clapping. Then, before his next number, he pointed up to the balcony and said, 'I love you too, pal.' And he sang for two more years. That fan brought him back from the ashes that night."

Yes, Ron, Frank always gave $100 tips. Many saw him doing that. Once a bell boy in the elevator admired Frank's suit, so he took off his jacket and gave it to him. They he said, 'Come to my room. You might as well have the pant's too." ////h
My brother got an opportunity to see him in one of those last concerts. He said that he was great!
I like the stories about him getting $100 tips and always treating working people with respect.
