Dick Bakalyan got thrown out of his small hometown theater in Watertown, Mass. several times for disruptive behavior. Finally, the theater owner, Mr. Baxter, told him, “Get out and don’t ever come back.”
At age 23, Dick moved to Hollywood and started his long career of playing street thugs and gangsters. Befriending Jerry Lewis and Frank Sinatra, Dick appeared in three of each of the star’s movies. He racked up 150 credits in his 60-year career.

Three years after leaving, Waterford, the Jerry Lewis movie ‘The Delicate Delinquent’ came to the Waterford theater. Dick had a large part in that movie playing a street hood.
Upon seeing the movie in Waterford, one of Dick’s friends went to Mr. Baxter, the theater manager, and said, “Dick Bakalyan is in the movie.”
“Where is that son-of-a-bitch sitting? I’ll throw his ass out.”
“No, Mr. Baxter. Dick is IN the movie with Jerry Lewis.”
“Oh, really? The next time he’s in town, tell him to stop by.”

Thanks for bringing him back in this great little story about the theater manager. Love the irony of it. Our local theater manager was my Boy Scout leader. He was so mild that I don't believe he ever banished anyone from the theater. But I couldn't say for sure.
My second cousin, who lived in Stockton, told me that James Arness and Peter Graves used to sneak into our little central Wisconsin town to date two local sisters. But I have no way of verifying that. But I do recall back in the sixties seeing Peter Graves in a triple X movie with an interracial theme, very advanced for that time. Not sure what happened to that movie but I would like to see it again.
