He lived in Hollywood and always wore his movie wardrobe in daily life including, braided wig, feathers and beaded moccasins. He claimed membership to several native American tribes. (Are you getting ahead of me?) He married an Indian woman and adopted two Indian sons.
When he died at 92, it was discovered that Iron Eyes was actually second-generation Italian-American according to documents and his baptismal certificate. His real name was Oscar DiCorti.
He lived to see his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6655 Hollywood Blvd.

It is unfortunate that he played many roles that were the stereotyped Indian. I much appreciate movies where Indians are portrayed closer to the way they actually lived and acted.
