In 1976, the unknown Jay Leno was age 26 appearing on the Merv Griffin Show. After Jay's interview, Merv brought out writer Jack Douglas and his Japan-born wife Reiko.
Japanese culture was still mysterious at that time, so Merv was asking Reiko about how her culture impacted her marriage to an American. At one-point Merv asked her:
“What would you do if Jack suddenly started seeing other women?”
Reiko replied calmly, “Oh, my father said, ‘That’s what men do, and it doesn’t mean anything’. So it would be all right with me.”
Jay, who was single, leaned forward in his chair, and asked her with a smile, “Are there any more at home like you?”
Jack turned to face Jay and said seriously, “Yes. She has a sister. And she’s looking to get married.”
Jay shot back into his chair waving his hand. “Oh, oh … okay ... Never mind.”
I remember at the time thinking: Wow, Jack really called Jay’s comic bluff on that one, and wishing I was on the show to tell Jack he's asking the wrong guy.
Hey, Jay. Be careful what you ask for.

At that time the wife of a very good friend from Bombay told me that, "Ron, you need to marry an Asian girl. I believe I had an opportunity with a very rich girl from Taiwan in 1970, but my teacher, student relationship prevented me from acting on her desperation, "to get married like my sister."
I always thought that Japanese women might be a little bit aggressive, somewhat approved by a friend of my partner of 28 years who is Asian and from Vietnam. We are partners for life and think so much alike on so many things they we don't really have any disagreements. The best way to live a life with your significant other.
