Stacey Jackson has the perfect life. A senior at Howard University in Washington, DC, she is blessed with brains, beauty and popularity and a loving family; not to mention a handsome basketball player boyfriend, Patrick. But all is not what it seems, especially when it comes to her relationship with Patrick. Stacey wants nothing more than to cut Patrick out of her life completely. However, Patrick's holding a damaging secret over her head and before she knows it, more problems arise within their already troubled relationship. To make matters worse, Stacey's long-time crush, Ronnie Morgan, enters the picture.

Ronnie is the drop-dead gorgeous co-captain of the Howard University basketball team and aspiring singer. Stacey's had a thing for Ronnie since she first laid eyes on him during their freshman year. Unbeknownst to her, Ronnie has wanted to get with Stacey as well. When Patrick goes home the summer before their senior year, Stacey realizes "God definitely has a sense of humor," because Ronnie starts making his moves. In the beginning, Stacey resists Ronnie's advances, because she does have a boyfriend, but after spending an innocent evening together, she gives into her longtime desires. Once those desires are unleashed, there's no turning back and it's not just about the sex!

Despite her current relationship, Ronnie feels that Stacey is a safe bet for "no drama" but he has no idea what's really going on with Stacey and Patrick. Ronnie tries to be supportive of Stacey's decision to remain with Patrick but soon, enough's enough. When Stacey doesn't break up with Patrick after an ultimatum, Ronnie ends their relationship.

Can Stacey find the courage to end her abusive relationship or will she let her secret shame, tear her new relationship apart before it gets a chance to blossom?

Love Lessons by Terren Grimble follows the life of Stacey Jackson during her senior year at Howard University. Stacey is a beautiful, smart, loving young woman. Dealing with the normal issues of a college student, Stacey has some challenges ahead of her. Trying to balance life around her education and other school activities was one thing, but to add juggling a relationship with her boyfriend, Patrick, who she has been dating since sophomore year at Howard, was another.

Life is not easy for Patrick. He suffers some serious struggles during his years at Howard, which causes problems in his personal life, with his academics and within his relationship with Stacey. Instead of realizing this, he loses sight of this wonderful supportive woman, pushing her to find interest in a different direction other than him.

Who catches Stacey's attention? Ronnie Morgan, star basketball player, handsome and a good student, one that seems to have it going on. She noticed him during their freshman year, just entering into Howard, but did not act on her interests. Did Ronnie notice Stacey? Oh, yes he did. Known to be a ladies man around campus, Ronnie finds himself falling head over heals for Miss Stacey Jackson. Sharing times together, feelings grew between Stacey and Ronnie. But then there was still Patrick, who just happened to be a teammate of Ronnie's, playing on the same basketball team. Patrick was distant from Stacey, but still trying to control her, taking his control issues past a healthy level in this relationship.

As Stacey and Ronnie spend more time together there is a connection and the desire to become a couple, even though neither one of them admits to it. At some point, Stacey is going to have to deal with being Patrick's girl and her growing feelings for Ronnie. Who will Stacey choose? And how will she choose to deal with it?

Love Lesson is a wonderfully written love story with realistic emotions and drama that are felt when involved in an unhealthy relationship, with an option to have a wonderful relationship with someone else. You never know what curves life might throw you when it comes to love. Such challenges may cause one to have to make decisions that are not always easy to make or to act on.

I highly recommend this book. I found it an enjoyable and a quick read. It is so refreshing to read a novel where young people come from loving supportive families and healthy environments. I look forward to Terren Grimble's next novel. Reviewed by S.E. Koshi aka Lady Flava, APOOO BookClub

This book was definitely a page turner and it even brought back memories of my college days. The characters were well developed and throughout the story you felt as if you were right there with them. Debut author, Terren Grimble, brings forth an exhilarating modern day romance in her novel, Love Lessons.

Love Lessons tells the romantic story of Stacey Jackson and Ronnie Morgan, two young adults that loved each other since the day they first saw each other on the campus of Howard University. However, the only problem was, Stacey already had a man and Ronnie, being a big-time basketball player on campus, already had a flock of females jocking him.

After being formally introduced through good friends, Stacey and Ronnie begin to get to know each other and develop strong feelings for the other and eventually a budding relationship. However, Stacey has issues from her past and present that she needs to tell Ronnie about that have to deal with her current boyfriend. Stacey knows that she must eventually tell Ronnie what she is dealing with because if she doesn't, it may ruin what is turning out to be perfect relationship!

Ms Grimble did a remarkable job in this page turning novel. With her modern-day dialect and characters, she brings forth an incomparable plot that is so real that you will find yourself relating to the characters and what they are going through. Her novel deals with issues that a lot of young adults can undeniably relate to. Ms Grimble did an outstanding job weaving in the serious issues of young love, pre-martial sex, abuse, teen pregnancy, abortion, friendships and relationships; basically everything that is needed to have a killer novel! The Writer's Inn would definitely recommend Love Lessons to anyone who is looking for a book to fall in love with and not be able to put down until the last line is read. Stacy Jackson is majoring in finance, a Delta and the vice president for the NAACP on campus while being involved in a serious relationship with Patrick, an Alpha, who not so many people like. She and Patrick have been dating since her sophomore year; while all along she’s been crushing on someone else. No matter what, it appears that their relationship is traveling full speed into reverse, yet, the brake lights don’t seem to work. While Patrick is spending his summer in New Jersey, Stacy is on campus being enticed by her crush.

Ronald Morgan from Brooklyn, New York, is the co-captain of the basketball team, majoring in hospitality management. Though he’s the star of the team, his first love is music. Love Lessons is Terren Grimble’s first novel that is about a relationship between a young couple, Stacey and Ronnie. I believe that Terren did a remarkable job depicting a portrayal of a relationship that one encounters in college. The characters are depicted well from start to finish. I especially like the title that Terren choose. This is a title that everyone can relate to whether it is a relationship that happens during college, before college or after college.
