What if?

I recently returned from a trip to Walt Disney World where my wife and I celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary. While traveling back at 35000 feet I could not help but reflect upon the many people who contributed to the incredible flying machine in which I and my wife were encapsulated. Looking out the window allowed me to see a wide expanse of both earth and sky where limits were not seen in direction or space. Below were the homes of millions of people few of which I knew but some I've met here or there. While discovering exactly where we were at any moment I became acutely aware of the need for a focused intent first from our Creator but second from man and his ability to both enhance and destroy to produce such beauty.

Rivers, valleys, mountains, and colors entered my mind as I sat and gazed at a scene that most missed as they either slept or ignored what was beside them. What if instead of being oblivious to the world around them they began to gather with a focused intent to make a better world, to clean the air, and stop procrastinating over the need to find peace among nations. I saw out my window nothing that suggested conflict or strife. What I saw was a world, a beautiful blue and white world, that surpassed the beauty of my wildest imagination.

I looked around the plane and saw few people take the time to look and see the wonder that was only the thickness of the skin which encompassed them in our fast moving cocoon. Some were reading worrisome news while others tended to their children. The stewardess went about her duties in an automatic kind of way. "What would you like to drink" "what kind of snack would you like" was her world. She was focused, almost laser focused on her duties as should be but after her duties were accomplished she returned to her darkened seat and never took the opportunity to see what was beyond the plane. She had her own private port from which to see and absorb our Creator's gift.

What if we set aside just one minute to focus of the beauty of this world and its people? What if we began to remove the walls that separate us from each other and the outside world? What if peace was the focus of our attention for just that small amount of time? Would our world change? I feel the answers are found in the questions themselves. Why not begin to use focused intent to change, improve, and create the world of our dreams. It will take only a few minutes each day. What a difference that would make.
