There is a price tag for secrecy, but those that pay it aren't those that play it:

i.e. When people operate in secrecy, they think they are exempt from any repercussion that might otherwise befall them. All to often this is the case, but there is always a repercussion from their action, it just happens to fall on the peon's.

IF true : Zbigniew Brzezinski, President Jimmy Carter's national security advisor in a 1998 interview with the French publication Le Nouvel Observateur stated;

"According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujaheddin began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, Dec. 24, 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise: Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. When the interviewer asked; "Despite this risk, you were an advocate of this covert action. But perhaps you yourself desired this Soviet entry into war and looked to provoke it?"

Brzezinski replied; "We didn't push the Russians to intervene, but we knowingly increased the probability that they would."

When the interviewer asked if he regretted his action, Brzezinski replied;

"Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? The day the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter: We now have the opportunity of giving to the USSR its Vietnam war.… "

When the interviewer asked: "And neither do you regret having supported the Islamic fundamentalism, having given arms and advice to future terrorists?"

Brzezinski replied; "What is most important to the history of the world? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some stirred-up Muslims or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the cold war?"

Then: With this arrogant action taken by the U.S.; The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, causing death and destruction to the citizens of a sovereign nation.

Question: Can anyone explain the reality of Justice, as it pertains to; If they attack the U.S. its a heinous act of barbarism, but if we attack them its inconsequential.

There is no moral ground for "the ends justifies the means", as any action taken has a repercussion. Thus, it is not a defensible position to say; It wasn't the U.S. that invaded Afghanistan, it was the Russians. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" is actually a 'Truism', but just as a knife or brick would be considered the instrument used in the act of killing, so to would be a gun.

• Afghani people were an instrument used by the U.S. to ensnare and kill Russian people. Thus, serving the greater U.S. cause of bringing about the demise of Soviet Communism.

• The Afghani people were just another insignificant blip on the screen, to be used and discarded for the greater U.S. cause of bringing about the demise of Soviet Communism.

• "What is most important to the history of the world? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some stirred-up Muslims or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the cold war?"

As one whose roots are in the belief that Democracy is the Ultimate form of Government, I've but one question to ask; Mr. Brzezinski, were the Afghani people given the opportunity to vote on this "excellent idea" of yours?

The Reality: We create the beast, then condemn it all to Hell when it breaks its tether and turns on us. Now, what's that question people keep asking again? Oh Yea!... Why do they hate us?
