How the faith of "Dr.E" has brought out the best in me while facing my own problems and challenges in life.

Most everyone that knows him, calls him, "Dr. E", except for maybe the freshman students, they call him, "Dr. Easterling". That doesn't last long though. Heck, I live in Texas and he works in Fulton, Missouri and I STILL CALL HIM, "Dr. E" sometimes! His wife, Lori gave me permission to call him Eddie about 3 years ago I believe. I met Dr. E back in August 1990 when I had transferred schools from Westminster College to William Woods College. You see, Westminster College had given up their Computer Science program so I had to find another school. I did NOT want to go back home to Texas because that is where the problem lies,(long story),so I transferred across town to WWC which is William Woods College which was ALL female back then. So, I applied and got accepted. I was one of the rare few who saw the light of both worlds of Westminster and William Woods. It turned out I needed ANOTHER Shunt revision at the end of August 1990. My neurosurgeon was in Dallas, Texas and classes were in Missouri. So,I flew to Missouri early and got books and assignments and then flew home for surgery. I got to have my own room since I was upper classmen. When I got back to school, I was AHEAD of the rest of the class! They did not get very far as the professor had thought! I would study in the hospital while waiting to have surgery. The pre-op nurses were used to me by now and said, "Rebecca, give me your book and take the shot so you can have surgery. You can study when you go home." I got angry but then they gave me the shot without me knowing it. Mom then kissed my forehead goodbye and that was it!Second semester I had an economic professor who was Dr. Easterling. He was EXCELLENT! He really paid attention to me. I get the "Dr.  E" from his name, Dr. Easterling. I took Microeconomic and Macroeconomic classes from Westminster College but I really did not learn a thing because I could not remember a thing on the quiz that Dr. E gave me before signing up for the advanced economic course. So, he stuck me back in Micro and Macroeconomics. My senior year I took an upper level economic course from Dr. E. I learned a great deal from him. I really enjoyed him as a professor.Dr. Easterling seemed genuinely concerned about me and my health condition as I was going to school. Of course, I became known as, "The girl with the brain problems". I was a Computer Information Systems major and Linda Davis, a Computer professor, had my address and telephone number at home. I worked in the Computer Lab for extra money from August 1990 to May 1992. The Business/Economic/Computer Departments are all in the same building including offices. In February 1991 I had to have another shunt revision and Dr. Easterling got my address from Linda Davis because their offices are just down the hall from each other. He wrote a letter to me at home while I was recuperating and had staples in my head!That letter, touched my heart! It was so sincere! He was deeply concerned about me! I found out that he and his wife and his two sons pray for me every day! Can you believe that? Even when things are going semi-good they still pray for me! Bless the WHOLE family of the Easterlings! They are my guiding force in this darkest of days lately.
