Legislation by taxation--where will Congress turn for their next cash cow?
To get more people to quit smoking, instead of having the balls to simply ban tobacco across the nation, our not-so-esteemed senators and congressman have decided to legislate by raising taxes on tobacco. Again.
And when this cash cow is milked for the last time, and every smoker in the nation falls in line like a good soldier and quits or dies his or her way out of this legal servitude, where will our elected representatives turn next for funding? Will they re-enact some form of Prohibition? I don't think so, mainly because most of them drink, so that's ok if the rest of us do. I mean, their ultimate aim is for all of us to be like them, act like them, dress like them, look like them, think like them, isn't it? If it isn't, you sure could've fooled me.
So, where is their next cash cow, the next legislative ban they wish to enact by raising taxes?
What if they decide, with a little help from their wealthy buddies in the insurance industry, that they don't like the looks of Americans as a whole, that they want a slimmer, trimmer populace? Well, they can't outright ban fat people, since most of them vote, so what will they do? Tax the fat people? Why not? Obesity now costs the nation a lot more in health care and related costs than smoking. And there's a good fifty percent or more of the population ripe to be raped by these jackals in Washington living large off our largesse.
Why not call for a fine on the overweight? A penny a pound. A Twinkie Tax enacted by a bunch of lazy Twinkies to force people to conform to their collective vision of America--a new totalitarian nation where diversity in all forms is a sin and freedom of choice is as evil as freedom of speech or religion or music or any other freedom not taxed and not under the Federal Government's strict control.
And think about this--when all those smokers quit, what will the majority become? Fat people. People gain weight when they quit smoking. Perhaps this is what our senators and congressmen are counting upon, more fat people to eventually tax into wellness, a penny a pound.
They're not that smart, that foreward thinking, are they? Or are they?
Smart enough to get elected to a job where all they have to do to take home a paycheck is sit on their asses, smile for the camera, and think of new ways to squeeze another pound of flesh out of the rest of us who actually work for a living.
Legislation by taxation--the new America--a penny a pound, a dollar a word, a dime a musical note. Only Government approved speakers, thinkers, musicians, Americans allowed here.
Think legislation by taxation isn't happening right this minute? Ask any smoker.
Now, if we the People had a say in our own affairs, if we were allowed to cast our votes in a binding national referendum once a year--a directive to our employees who've obviously forgotten just who they work for--we might save ourselves from a fate worse than Rome. Will they give it to us? Not willingly, I'm sure. They're afraid we might find a way to legislate every senator and congressman out of a job simply because they don't conform to our collective vision of what America should be--one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
