Another non-binding resolution, this one by the House of Representatives...

Does the House of Representatives have nothing better to do than pass another nonbinding resolution, this one demanding a formal apology from Japan for the "comfort" women during World War II?

Not that I don't feel for these women, I most certainly do. Just as I feel for any soul who's had a traumatic, life-changing experience, or a bad childhood, or fought an unwinnable war, etc. and so forth. Still, lets get real here. This happened over sixty years ago during a world war. War sucks. Bad things happen during war. Yes, they do. But instead of our House of Representatives wasting our time and tax dollars, let's examine another possibility that might take less time and money, our tax money, and more accurately reflect the so-called religious make-up of the House.

As a majority of the over four-hundred members of the House would claim to be Christians, haven't they ever heard of forgiveness? Have they never heard of minding the obstruction in their own eye before trying to remove the one in their brother's? Or leading by example? If any one of these members wasting our time and money truly believe in Christianity, if they are not just mouthing these sentiments to gain favor with their constituents, then they should forgive, shouldn't they? Does forgiveness require a formal apology from the offender? No, it does not. True forgiveness requires no apology whatsoever.

Has the House of Representatives never heard of minding their own business? How about passing a binding resolution to force themselves to address some of the real problems Americans all face? What about introducing new anti-trust legislation so that prices on all goods and services cannot be fixed by competitors in any segment of industry or business working in collusion? How about a binding resolution mandating a return to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution? How about some legislation that prohibits raising taxes on any minority, like smokers for example, to force them to bend to the will of the moronic politically-correct crowd? How about a law that makes it illegal to impinge, by legislation or taxation without representation, on another's freedom of choice in all matters personal--seat belts, smoking, helmets, spanking the kids, what have you?

What about legislation that prohibits any member of Congress from introducing, wasting time on, or passing any nonbinding resolution?

Better yet, what about introducing legislation that gives the American people the right to vote once a year in a binding national referendum on such issues as whether or not we want to see our Congress, in this case our overpaid House of Representatives, waste another minute on one more impotent nonbinding resolution that serves only to give a headline or two to the selfish and self-serving son-of-a-buck who introduced it?

In no way does this "resolution" help the women for whom the apology is demanded. And if, after sixty plus years, these survivors haven't dealt with the issues and moved on, I forgive them for wallowing in the past. Just as I forgive every other individual bent on using his or her traumatic childhood, or some other equally tragic event as an excuse for not making all they can of what life they have left. We've all had traumas--I have my own list that I don't dwell on much, let alone use as an excuse to milk every person I meet for pity and maybe a handout. I have forgiven my abusers, no apology demanded, received, or even necessary. I'm not about to give anyone, especially those who abused me, the power to keep me miserable forever.

I suggest the House of Representatives rise up and do some real work on behalf of all Americans for a change. These women for whom the House so arrogantly attempts to inject itself into another nation's affairs don't even live here in America, nor were they born here. So, why is the House of Representatives, the entire Congress for that matter, ignoring the needs of the people, the American People, who do?

Mr. Bushman,

I agree that the U.S. should stay out of other country's business and that includes Iraq.

"I suggest the House of Representatives rise up and do some real work on behalf of all Americans for a change."

What about Homeland Security, doesn't that count?
