As it played out, I was in NYC two weeks before Amy's honor, and learned yesterday about the ceremony. Apparently, she'd already landed an award in Lillian Helman's name.

I was quite amazed by her perception of our family's pycho-political dynamics as it filtered down through her grandmother, my aunt Leepie.

The Villager covered Leep's theatrical and political persona, while Amy absorbed the latter in vivid detail.

But then again, the dissident side of Amy's grandmother was intertwined with her Group the theater activity especially considering the dark period backdrop of McCarthyism in the 50's.

So despite the fact that Amy is in her early 30s, she might as well be a reincarnation of all that she observed as an impressionable and artistically sensitive child.

I experienced the same, a generation earlier, but wouldn't begin to fashion a play doing any justice to what transpired.

That task should be left to a world class playwright like Amy!
