This article is from my published work, Unzipping the Woman. Women who are dealing with issues that have been following them for years, in which they are tired of feeling zipped, and always stuck.

Becoming Unzipped

Have you ever been in a tightly zipped place? You know, "The situation that seems will never get better." Or the problem that no one can seem to solve. Have you ever had on a dress with a zipper so... tight that you could barely breathe? But somehow you felt as though this was the dress for you to wear for that special occasion? Sure you have, and many more women if they had a chance to come forward, they would tell you a story or two about the worst and uncomfortable time of their life in that so called perfect dress. They would tell you that as soon as they returned home, they quickly ran into their dressing room to unzip themselves, only to be able to, "Breathe again". But however silly or sad this may sound, even though we know the uncomfortable feeling of wearing that dress, "We some how find ourselves putting it right back on again."

Isn’t this how many of our lives are if the truth were told? We are zipped so tight with the cares of life, which at times we can’t figure out whether we are coming or going.

Remember those times when the zipper to your dress would get stuck and it would grab some of your skin, and you would have to position yourself so that the flesh would loosen up to release the zipper? But after a while you will go right back and get that same dress and wear it all over again, only to go through that same hurtful process. This is how those same problems get zipped right back on us all over again. No matter how tight, hurtful, or uncomfortable it may be, it’s almost like we love the hurtful feeling of being all zipped up.

This is how our emotions operate.

We feel that if we can just deal with it for just that moment, it will be okay. But inwardly we know that if we can get to the place where we can release a scream, cry, or even a prayer, that we may become that unzipped woman for the moment. But wait. There is still tomorrow….

God has come to unzip us from everything that we are going through. Whether  it is in a relationship, with our kids, financial pressure, on our job, or wherever. God is a mighty force against anything that gets in the way of His daughters. Get ready because, "The zipper is coming down today." It may not change overnight, but, as long as you have obtained it in your spirit you are already unzipped.

As a minister, I have the opportunity to speak to a lot of women, whether in ministry, at work, or by counseling. When I ask them, "What would be an amazing unzipping point in their life, that would cause them to open up to closed issues from their past or personal lives? 93% say, "Women, who are more transparent," Women who don’t mind sharing the real issues of everyday life.
