"You may accomplish more by being direct" the slip from the cookie said. It gave
me pause for thought.
On the one hand you have the word 'may' which is not definitive, meaning that you
also may not. It all depends doesn't it?
Certainly the troopers of the light brigade would take issue with the thought. Those poor souls at
Dieppe would agree with them.
Still, the squeaky wheel does get the oil.
Speak your mind! Say what you mean! These have similar meanings, if one assumes that
doing so is the best and most successful strategy.
There are a lot of politicians that would be out of work if they did that. For them, the direct
approach would definitely not result in success. Few would survive such a fuddle-duddle.
A famous general once said "When in doubt, attack." Another equally famous general said,
"We are not retreating. We are just attacking in a different direction!"
Here is another thought. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If that is so, then success
is also an indefinite point. Perhaps one may find success when using the direct approach.
One might also zip right past the point of success without realizing it at all.
