Many who try to contradict or nullify the truth have never really read the source of truth, so views and misconceptions form a vague conclusion of WHAT IS NOT.
How can you know the truth without reading the newspaper, or listening to the radio or television for the latest newscast? Or better yet, logging into the internet and the various resources for information gathering? How can you know the news without connecting to the
source of the news?
In my lifetime, although I am not that ancient, I have met a lot of "unbelievers" who have bluntly if not rudely, expressed their contempt for what I believe in.
The conflict arises once they find out in my resume or in my conversation that I am a "Christian". They become so alienated by anything concerning God and the truth, I mean the real truth. I am not talking about religion, because there are a hundred thousand kinds of them, and none are in connection whatsoever to Who God is.
Deception is the devil's work and he has skillfully done a good job deceiving people into thinking that because they have religion, they know God, or has been "accepted" by God.
But God is not a sadistic God Who tells us He exists, then plays hide and seek.
He left us with the map, the one source of truth we need to read to know Who He is or if HE IS TRUE. That source is the Bible.
I am writing from experience because I was an "unbeliever" myself. Sure I had religion. I was born with it. My parents had me baptized into the Catholic Church without my knowledge nor consent,(I was a baby) and I grew up and got schooled in a very religious setting.
Add to that, I studied religion since grade school, all that catechism, Pax Romana clubs, sacraments, name it, I learned it. I could even debate on it,
having taken up Apologetics, Theology 1 to 4, Life in the Spirit Seminars, etc.
If I had been born a boy, I would have ended up a priest.
I surely had religion, lots of them, but I never knew God. I never knew the news because I never got hold of His Newspaper: the Bible. It is only now that I realized why our teachers in the Catholic university where I went forbade
us to read the Bible, saying we might be "converted" to Protestantism, or reading it might cause us to "doubt".
I wondered how a book about God can make me doubt His existence. Now I know that it was to HIDE the truth.
Years of religious practices and human effort at "trying to be good" was all an exercise in futility. I went to masses and "received Jesus Christ" in communion, said nine-hour novenas to all the saints, did Wednesday novenas to our Mother of Perpetual Help, said a thousand rosaries for penance, lighted candles during Lent, had ash on my forehead on "Ash Wednesday", kissed the wooden cross on First Friday, never ate meat during "Lent". I even "prayed" to St. Anthony for a lost earring, as he is the patron saint of lost things, and then to St. Christopher too, for safe travel (until he was removed from sainthood by the Pope.)
I am writing this as a matter-of-fact,
from my personal experience, not to attack the Catholic Church. that was just the way it is, until in April 14, 1994, I had my Damascus experience with
the Son of God and it was not a burning bush style of encounter. I just cried out and said a prayer, "I want to know
Who You are as Moses did, and I want to know why I am here in this cruel world."
A simple complaint-like childish prayer, if you may call it that.
The television was on at that time and a program called "Christ is the Answer"
was on it, because it was Lent, or Easter, or Good Friday, whatever. I listened to the host who said "If you want to know Who Jesus Christ is, if your life is a big question mark and you do not know your reason for living, CHRIST IS THE ANSWER". Pray with me this prayer with all your heart and ASK Him to come into your heart, and He will. So I did.
I was at the brink of suicide at that moment, and I prayed that prayer through my tears, sobbing the words while my two kids watched me, wondering if I lost my marbles or I had a toothache.
The moment was spiritual, and the encounter was not something the mind can rationalize. I cannot explain it but I experienced it and can only tell it. One can only be sure the encounter with God that she has is genuine when there s a CHANGE. The former self is changed and the mind has been "opened" like a door. The former things that were vague become clear, and there arises an inner hunger...for the truth.
I had never been "evangelized" before because whoever tried to, ended up with a debate. I only had an old Bible that
my sister used in high school and which I read through the night in one sitting, from 10 pm to 3 am. No one told me to, I just read it and like a sponge that absorbed water, I drank from the Water of Life.
My person changed after that, my temper cooled down and totally disappeared. My speech became soft and gentle, gracious and tender. My whole person changed, rather drastically, and from self-pity and discouragement came hope and wisdom, and I had a quiet peace inside, and joy.
I was a "new creation" and I did not know it until I read it in the Bible.
My family and my children noticed it, and later my children came to know God too, in circumstances He planned. I also discovered that a believer in Christ is called a "saint" and I was already one, without the needless canonization and press release.
The best thing that I learned was the promise of Jesus Christ that I need not die to have "eternal life" because it
was His declaration in John 17:3 that "this is eternal life: that they may
know You, the only True God, and Jesus Christ Whom You have sent."
I also have my personal guide, the Holy Spirit, "But when He, the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all truth..."(John 16:13)
God is a Faithful God, He can never lie.
(Hebrews 6:18) And "He rewards those who earnestly seek Him."
"The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth."
(Psalm 145:18)
Now it is your turn to read the News.
