Time stands still and yet moves professively forward in Takoma Park, Md.
On the surface, Takoma Park looks like vintge America, with its 1940s Main Street, its large Victorian homes, and its modest bungalows.
But behind the Normal Rockwell facade, this Montgomery County border town that abuts the District of Columbia is more 1960s and 1940s, a proudly progressive municipality of ardent tree-huggers residing in an officially nuclear-free zone.
Yet, just as the original Takoma subdivision straddled the Maryland-DC line, so does Takoma Park today encompass a variety of cultures and lifestyles knitted together by its unabashedly retro, small-town feel.
