The Sacred Writers Disappeared In Archaic Parchment
Ice water falls as a silent protective holy blanket
where Palestine winter torrents briskly rush in
atop the judgment of Lebanon and ancient litany seeking
are bounties sacral mile stretching upon sloping hillsides…
Why have the sacred writers disappeared in archaic parchment
over the crests of limestone’s valley and cisterns lain hew
traveling unabridged mile to endless mile for salvation
searching out the promised lands and the holy waters of Galilee…
What visionaries do we evermore encounter by morning
as they carry troths of snow’s wintry stilling chill
under every season’s snow thronged ice drift rising
as ponds and river streams are silencing over icy quills
And the fountains and depths of hearth’s brick are building
separating the territories of all man and forbidden foe
as these promised lands of our inheritance are acquittals in slumber
declared under ice waters flowing and burning bridges damned…
