God's Word is a living Word. Here is proof.

Love of God’s Word

He always sits on the second row from the front in the same spot. He is present at every service and always has a smile on his face. Some people would be offended by him I suppose because he is not always clean and sometimes he smells bad. His hair and his hands will be dirty, but his face—his eyes—he loves the Lord.

Sometime during his life someone told him that Jesus loved him and he believed it. His love for the Lord and for other people is obvious. He likes to shake hands with everyone and he enjoys talking with my husband.

He is very large and obviously has had a difficult time learning or working. He has diabetes now. He is probably in his late 50s but looks older.

This morning during Worship I sat in a different place and I could see him clearly. When the preacher told us what scripture to turn to he flipped thru his Bible. He was careful as he unzipped the Bible carrier that he uses. He turned each page slowly, carefully, lovingly until he was to the beginning, Genesis. The Scripture passage this morning was from the book of Matthew.

He appeared to be reading along as the preacher asked us to stand in respect of the reading of God’s Word. All during the service, when another Scripture would be referred to, Ronnie carefully turned one page at a time, smoothing out each page as he went, never getting past the first few chapters in Genesis.

The Bible he carries is worn and obviously used. But it became apparent to me this morning that he cannot read. It also was apparent that he loved the Word of God that he held so carefully in his hands. Even thought he cannot read one word, he loves the Word of God.

I started to cry, feeling sorry for him. Then I realized that there was no need to feel sorry for him. He loved the Lord Jesus. He loves God and His Word. And it is as simple as that. A love so simple, so fresh and so undisturbed is to be envied. How blessed he is to have such a love.

I think Jesus smiles every time Ronnie opens his Bible, to look at the pages and feel the love of God from each and every living Word.
