For anyone interested in finding the time to write, here are some suggestions.
How do you find the time to write? That's a good question! It's not an easy process, especially if you have a full time career, family, and a social life. I admire those writers who write each and every day. I'm not as disciplined, but I would like to be.
However, when I wrote several times during the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)) in November, I was able to find the discipline to do so. Despite a busy work schedule of teaching, family time, my birthday, and Thanksgiving, I scheduled time each day, usually after dinner, to write. I wrote two novels which were published later, A Kiss Out of Time and A Dance Out of Time, as part of NaNoWriMo.
I am an advocate of carrying a notepad wherever and whenever I go for those bursts of inspiration. I keep one in my car, several around the house including the bathroom (good inspiration there), and in my purse. I
Sometimes it's not finding the time but making it for writing. It comes down to choices, and it helps to have understanding friends and family.

During my working career I followed Peter Drucker's advice in his book on Time Management. Like you did, he recommended setting aside large blocks of uninterrupted time to do the work with goals in mind every time you used that time. I got a lot done using that approach, always meeting deadlines, sometimes with very short notice. I never had to pull an all-nighter or put myself through the stress of not being prepared.
During the last 10 years of my working life, I finished four novels and a book of short stories. Looking back, I'm not sure how I did it. Since I've been retired for the last six years, I have completed another three novels and two books of short stories. Still, I've filled in the time I have to write with other activities, giving me about an hour a day to write. Strange. Writing less now when I should have more free time than when I was working. I guess Parkinson's law applies: work will take as long as the amount of time set aside to do it.
