Ok, that may be a little unfair of me since I’m the type that likes good character development over virtual realities and mythical creatures exploding from the sea even the sea of dreams.  This brings me to Freddie Krueger.  Why?  It hasn’t even been that long.  The first couple of "Nightmare" movies were good.   They had great character interaction even when the character was bad.  I hope this remake isn’t in the league with the "Halloween" remake.  Again, why?  Why go to obvious clichés from the sequels and dissolve the delicious suspense of each scene.  It’s like taking a fun house ride in a brightly lit room with a playbill of what was going to happen at each turn while some one is constantly slashing at a dummy seated beside you.

I do have exceptions but they should stay the exceptions and not become the rule.  There are two.

1)     The remake is altered so dramatically, like “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Willy Wonka”, that the only thing they have in coming is a little singing.  So I just realized that if the alteration is that dramatic then it really isn’t an alteration.  It is a new movie unto itself.  So that leaves me with one exception.

1 – again) That the remake is of a movie that was never really a hit to start with.  I would use some examples but I don’t want to be banned from the movie theaters. 

So Hollywood, what is going on?  Why are we seeing less and less original work and more copy cat stuff?  There is too much talent in the world for this.

One last piece of advice, if it was filmed in black and white, never make it twice.  That includes “Young Frankenstein”.  Don’t do it, don’t try to, don’t even think about it!
