At what point do we allow help to hinder us and why?
At what point do we allow help to hinder us and why?
A day to play catch with the universe. I'll throw something out and see what comes back.
It seems to me that the main things that mankind has created or developed to make our lives easier or more in control are the same things that we stress over the most or the things that we lose control over and they control us even harm us. Money, government, energy production, are the things that come to mind for me.
We went from bartering goods and services to the use of money. Did this simplify anything? Now you can have goods and services to barter and no money. No money, no trade, no purchase, no bill pay.
Our government is employed by us to protect our rights and to protect our lives and to assist in coordinating our needs yet we allow our government to basically treat us like indentured servents e.g. the concept of eminent domain (or condemnation) which is rearing its ugly head in the guise of compulsory pooling or as I like to call it "What the Frack!" I'll withhold many other governmental issues I dissaprove of.
Energy production is another area of good and bad. Nuclear power is a main example. Nuclear power provides an enormous need for energy yet it was used before safe disposal was available and it was used to create doomsday bombs.
If nothing else, I better understand the meaning of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." I mean that as our personal hell, here, now. I guess the road to happiness is paved with the same good intentions. At what point does the road split? At what point do we allow help to hinder?
Why do we let help turn into hindrance? Is it ignorance? Is is apathy? Is it that good and bad are inseparable conjoined twins? Is it forced upon us by those who feel they are strong and we are weak? In otherwords, is it fear?

While I've been helped throughout my 50 years of spinal cord injury paralysis by, what I call, "just-in-time technology," most people do not need these, sometimes expensive, technologies just the lead normal lives, like I do. I was fortunate to be able to leave my family in my early 20s and not have any more physical or financial help from them at all. But, 22 years ago, I was forced to hire help to get me ready to go to work every day and take care of my daily physical needs. By allowing others to help, and paying them for doing it, I have led a more fulfilling life. The downside is that most helpers are not willing to go where I want to go or do what I want to do, so they become a hindrance to my progress unless I can work around them.
Ironically, I am writing a diabolical short story about how all of the nuclear power plants around world are forced off-line and go to melt down without being able to be stopped. I call it, Poison Earth, to be posted here in the story section very soon.
