No Taxation without representation
In the last week we American taxpayers bailed out Wall Street, several large banks, and other corporations with over 700 billion dollars of our tax money.
It occurred to me that if our money is going to bail out large banks and corporations, we the taxpayer should at least be represented on the Board Of Directors of these banks. We should have a standing member on the board of Wachovia, etc. to represent us, the American taxpayer.
Imagine a senario where one of these large banks wants to lay off 5000 employees. Our representative could claim that those layoff plans would be a significant burden to taxpayers. However, our representative could suggest alternative cuts which would save the same amount of money by reducing CEO salaries by eight percent. Imagine the fun!
I am suggesting that you call your congressional representative and demand that we taxpayers be represented on the corporate boards of these bailed-out companies. It's our money and we need to be represented.
