Have you ever visualized what you would do if you were in charge of the Country? I would do x, y, and z. After that a, b, and c. Just put me in charge and I would really clean up the mess we are in.
Over the last few weeks I have been having a similar fantasy. In this fantasy, Trump has been deposed and by some mysterious circumstances I find that I am now President. What would I do on day one?
At first, I would call a meeting of Trump’s Cabinet. I would sit them down in the Roosevelt Room and fire their sorry asses. Tell them to vacate their offices by 5:00 pm.
Then I had a better idea.
I would call each cabinet member into the Oval. Betsy DeVoss would be first. The conversation would go like this:
Me: Well Betsy, how do you like your job?
The conversation would continue like this for a few minutes.
Me: you probably think I am going to ask you for your resignation. No, I am going to offer you a way to keep your job. But you have to do something first.
Me: (calling in an aide) This is Sam Johnson. Sam will be on a special assignment for me. I’ll explain his role in a minute. If you want to keep your job, you will have to work on a special project for me.
We have selected a DC public school and I want you to work as a teacher’s aide in this public school classroom for 6 months. Among your duties will be such things as lunch and bus duty, grading papers, wiping children’s noses, meeting with hostile and angry parents, developing lesson plans and so on. Sam will monitor your progress weekly. He will meet with teachers, parents and the principal to follow up on you.
If after 6 months, you have performed well you will be entitled to your job back. You of course have the option of refusing this. If you do so, you will immediately be fired and escorted to the front door and left there. Since you are no longer a government employee the driver and the car you arrived in this morning will not be available to you to take you back to your office which you will have until 5:00 this afternoon to vacate. You have 30 seconds to give me your answer.
Betsy: (in a fit of anger) That’s outrageous! Of course I refuse!
Me: Sam, please escort Ms. DeVoss to the front door and by the way be sure to slam the door behind her.
Betsy: But how will I get back to my office?
Me: Walk! Hitchhike! Take the metro! I don’t care!
I would then call in each cabinet member and make a similar offer.
Rex Tillerson would have the option of living in an indigenous village in a third world country there are many former Peace Corp members who have offered to monitor him.
Steve Mnuchin will live on the streets with the homeless for six months. He will sleep in homeless shelters, work in soup kitchens and live with those whose homes he foreclosed on for a missing 35 cents payment.
Jeff Sessions will have to serve time as an offender for 6 months. Since this is voluntary there should be no problem with legalities. Another option would be to deport him to Mexico for 6 months.
Tom Price will serve as an orderly in a hospital emptying bed pans for those terminally ill patients who were denied health care coverage.
Each cabinet member would be offered similar choices.
Unfortunately, they will probably refuse. Too bad. They could have learned something.
This is one case where the "bleeding liberal media" is using its power to provide a sane alternative to the insanity going on in the White House right now.
