I do have one suggestion. Since my high school typing class many, many years ago, it was suggested that we use the salutation of: Ladies and Gentlemen: The reason for this is quite obvious. Addressing someone as "Sir" implies that they are of higher rank either militarily or possess some aristocratic title where fealty is required. Addressing a woman as "Madam," is even worse, because we all know what a Madam is. ;-)
