ARE MAGA CHRISTIANS TURNING AWAY FROM TRUMP?
Recently, several news stories have told of Christians who are realizing that they have been conned by Trump. One such example is Ed Trevors who says “that Trump used us.”*
More and more MAGA Christians are coming to the realization that following the shadow of an ego-driven, sociopathic liar like Trump is following the path to self-destruction. Trevor’s says that because of this narcissistic con-artist, it will take years if not generations, for Christianity to recover, if it ever does.
For Trump has proven to be another Saruman. Like Saruman who wanders on a lonely, dark road at the conclusion of The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, he has shed his “royal” clothes for rags and a torn, dirty robe. The object of numerous lawsuits, he has proven not only to be a liar, but a loser as well. He has left a trail of Grima Wormtongues in his wake.
These Grima Wormtongues, like the many Megachurch pastors whose names have become household names, have turned control of their lives and careers to lust for power and greed for new toys, like jets and mansions. What they really desire is to form a Christian Nationalist country where they have power and control. Then they hope to make this country theirs, a country where white supremacy rules.
Many years ago Christianity was known for its efforts to provide Social Justice. Groups like the Salvation Army or Sojourners were were household names. These days, one rarely hears of Social Justice paired with Christianity.
When one looks at history, one sees that the end of tyrants and would be dictators rarely ends peacefully. Hitler shot himself after poisoning his new wife and dog. Franco died of heart failure. Stalin died of sepsis. These would-be dictators rarely die peacefully in their sleep. They usually have short, nasty, and brutal lives.
Hopefully, it is not too late for these MAGA Christians to turn from their path of self-destruction. Ed Trevors seems to think it is. Their lust and greed for power so far has driven them to destroy whatever integrity and honesty they have left.
Perhaps the best example of how the lust for power is futile is found in Thomas Grey’s, Elegy in a Country Churchyard.
The boast of heraldry, the pomp of pow'r,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike th' inevitable hour.
The paths of glory lead but to the grave.
