Mister Bush - tear down that wall!

----- Less than one month ago, Nancy Reagan begged President George Bush to help save her husband and others through stem cell research.
----- Our President declined.
----- Instead, he has effectively blocked funding to rescue even doomed children by his staunch refusal to allow for federal funding [unless you count a worthless program which utilizes sparse, existing stem cell lines.]
----- His reasoning? His 'belief' that human life starts at conception even though he has no scientific 'proof' to support his 'faith'.
----- Nancy Reagan is quoted last month as saying: "I just don't see how we can turn our backs on this," and, also: "We have lost so much time already. I just really can't bear to lose any more."
----- For those of the far, far right who fear Mrs. Reagan may have become a Democrat, keep in mind that - at a fundraiser for The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation last month [where kids so afflicted today will be considered fortunate if they only lose an arm or a leg by the time they are Mr. Bush's age] - Former President Gerald Ford as well as others from her Republican party were there in support since they, too, understand this desperate need of thousands in our country.
----- Definition-wise, STEM CELLS refer to any undifferentiated cells that can be made to specialize [such as those which can be molded to become brain cells and thereby restore the intellect of those stricken with Alzheimer's Disease as was President Reagan.]
----- ALZHEIMER'S, itself, is for now an incurable illness - occurring as early as middle age - in which degeneration of a person's brain cells results in loss of memory, brings about mental confusion and inevitably leads to a total disintegration of the personality.
----- Webster's New World Encyclopedia says that a human EMBRYO "describes the fertilized egg during its first seven weeks of existence" while "the human embryo is usually termed a FETUS after the eight week of development when the limbs and external features of the head are recognizable".
----- Mr. Bush's sentiments are not new by the way for I have heard them since 1966 when I was a high school student at Gordon Tech in Chicago where my Latin teacher one day declared that - if the first ever heart transplant were successful at that time - it was surely the work of the devil because it was against God's will to save human life by using the flesh of another.
----- [If all of us thought that way, we would still have people dying from tooth decay!]
----- With regard to letting one's religious beliefs override those where the lives of others can be saved if they are discounted, those days of 'fire and brimstone' must give way to reason for Jesus Christ, himself, said we all MUST love one another as we love ourselves.
----- As such, those like George W. Bush must be exposed for what they truly support - suffering and death - both of which are being inflicted upon even the babies of fellow Americans due to their own short-sighted and self-righteous prejudices.
----- Insofar as Alzheimer's goes, I have firsthand knowledge of it, myself, because - when I was placed in an old folks home to die [due to a bad liver] in 1992 - one of my roommates, Joe, was diagnosed with it. He had been a big-time attorney evidently in the city but now was wasting away from Alzheimer's. On occasion, he would rally. Once, after he had in fact, he began to cry because he said he knew he was very sick and that no one could save him. [Side note: I describe that as well as what life is really like in a nursing home in my upcoming novel, THE DISSOLUTION SOLUTION, whose first draft was hailed at 'The Great Mahakali Write-A-Thalon' May 14-16.]
----- Further, on one of those specials last night on TV, one woman said when she had last been with The Gipper a short while ago, he squeezed her hand because he knew he was loved.
----- Just as Nancy and Ron had loved one another for so long and so beautifully. It is a shame that one man added to their pain, something this once 'dead man' assures him is AGAINST the will of Almighty God for He truly loves us.
----- As for me, personally - though I didn't like what that old dude from Dixon, Illinois, always said or did - I voted for him anyway because I felt when he claimed he cared for others, he wasn't just playing salesman with me.
----- Finally, Mrs. Nancy Reagan, might I extend my deepest sympathy for your loss and assure you that I - as many of our fellow Americans - only wish we could have heard your husband spin just one more of those stories of his.
