I came across that expression recently in a movie from the 80's. Literal translation would be "...one cannot live without love." Possibly, it even means without love, there is no life. I guess that's a true statement. As I look at my writing, (http://stores.lulu.com/store.php?fAcctID=1359614) there does seem to be a central or at least underlying theme of love - love sought, love found, love lost. Well you get the point. Love comes in different forms though. In addition to romantic love (eros) there is brotherly love - love of family, etc. The broadest form of love is agape - a love of mankind or the world in general - not unlike the Love of God for His creation. Agape love prompts us to do things for others without the least hint or promise of anything in return. I've written before that I've been mildly criticized by my readers that my characters do not find love and "...live happily ever after." I disagree. Every primary character I've created strives to find meaning and purpose in their lives - to find love, yes. But, moreover, to give and show love, even if unknowingly, to those around them. To me as a writer, or as a human, I think we have an obligation to show love and to help those around us. No se puede vivir sin amor!!! Agree? Disagree?
