Elcca, a community leader, mentioned the term "power slave" to me as she edited my book, Separating Fact from Fiction: The Life of a Consensual Slave in the 21st Century. The idea behind the term has stayed with me since that time.
A power slave is a man or woman who identifies as slave while maintaining a level of autonomy and authority within the community and/or their home. These men and women often seek out and accept positions of power within the community while maintaining their station as slave.
I agree that subs/slaves often do put their needs aside in order to make sure that the one they serve has what he/she needs; the term powerslave is awkward. This term appears to indicate that subs/slaves are pigeon holed by their position; in my relationship this is not the case. My slave was a single mom for many years before she and I got together, in the course of out 7+ years real time I have seen her swing from something like a dominant(try telling a 25 year old daughter what to do) to total submission and subservience.
The other thing I wonder about is do we really need another name for someone in this lifestyle?
