Do you need to have a Handicapped Placard for your car? Do you know how to obtain one? I have listed the five steps in obtaining a Handicapped Placard? If you need one for yourself a family member or friend, read on.

When you need a temporary Handicapped Placard follow the steps listed below:

(1) Go to the Department of Motor Vehicles ((DMV) or to your local AAA office if you are a member and obtain the appropriate form.

(2) Make an appointment with the appropriate doctor for your handicap. Example: Knee Pain – Orthopedic Doctor or maybe your Primary Doctor.

(3) Have the doctor fill out the form.

(4) Take the filled out form back to the DMV or your local AAA office.

(5) There is a small charge but you will immediately receive your Handicapped Placard.

You can obtain a temporary Handicapped Placard for as long as six months if your doctor approves. If you need another temporary Handicapped Placard start steps 1-5 about two weeks before the expiration date on your present placard.

This might seem like it is a complete run around on your part but if you need the Handicapped Placard this is the only way you will obtain it.

If you need a permanent Handicapped Placard follow steps 1-5.

With this placard you are entitled to any of the handicapped parking spots and it will cut your walking distance way down.
