Were you ever in a violent situation? Did somebody hurt you? Were you ever a witness to a violent crime? How did you handle the situation? Did you tell other people about it? Did you keep it to yourself? If you answered yes or no to any of these questions, read on.

I recently witnessed a violent family incident while in a public place. This was a nice restaurant in a nice part of town. I was with a group of my friends. After the incident was over and the family members were in police custody my mind could not turn off the incident. I still replayed it over in over in my mind in living color.

I found talking about it to friends and groups helped. I also wrote another article about it. I am not a young woman and I have never been in a violent situation before and I never want to be in another as long as I live.

I have watched violence of all kinds on television, in the movies and I love to read murder mysteries. This type of violence did not affect me the same way. I might think about the movie for awhile but I readily forgot about it. But when I was right there on the scene. I could feel the energy. I could smell the fear of the family members involved. I was involved in every sense while the whole tragic scene unfolded in front of me.

Everybody releases their stress differently. I spoke to one of my friends who was also there - she could not talk about it. She thought about it constantly since it happened but she could not talk about it. Maybe you will need a professional counselor, psychologist or whatever works.

Unfortunately, there are too many people who have been in violent situations and the way the world is going it is never going to stop. Violence is here to stay.

We can help ourselves by being aware of our surroundings; including the area of town you are in and the people you are with. Anyone can turn violent if given the right provocation. Drugs and alcohol can always backfire and cause havoc.
