Thirty years ago I lived in Virginia Beach with my husband, who was in the Navy, and my toddler son something like this happened to us. The story went like this. I took 3 twenty dollar bills and put them into an envelope along with a bank deposit slip filled out correctly and stuck it into the night depository of our bank.

Thirty years ago sixty dollars was a lot of money. I wrote checks to pay bills and never gave it another thought. All of a sudden the checks bounced. I immediately called my bank and spoke with the bank manager. This person said to me, “we do not have any bank deposit of $60.00.

If you deposited it in the night deposit it is counted every morning. This was not done so you must be lying about this deposit. I am sorry but there will be bank charges accr loyal customer for two years - they did not believe me and called me a LIAR.

So much for customer service for the bounced checks." I WAS FURIOUS. It was a few days before Christmas. My husband was in the Navy and I was not working. We did not have any way to cover the checks, the bank charges and of course the charges from where the checks were sent.

But what really hit me smack in the face was the fact that this was my bank. I had been aservice. The day before Christmas I received a phone call from a woman. I don’t remember her name I wish I did. She asked me if I had deposited 3 twenty dollar bills in the night depository at this bank.

I told her the story and she said, “Merry Christmas. Your deposit was put into an envelope addressed to me by mistake. I have the deposit and I will take it to the president of the bank after Christmas.” Yes there are good people in this world. This was definitely a Christmas Miracle I have never forgotten.

We received a letter of apology from the president of the bank. He stopped the banks charges and paid all the charges accrued from where the checks had been sent. This was a Christmas Miracle I have never forgotten.
