What does being able to read mean to you? Do you have a friend who can not read? read on.
I have a friend who had very little schooling and is now 86 years old. His dream was to be able to read. He tried reading children’s library books grades 1-2. He could make out some words but others were a mystery.
I believe he has dyslexia or some form of learning disability. 86 years ago they did not know about this type of brain problem or how to treat it.
Last year the library honored him at a dinner. He received 3 awards along with 3 other people. Then out of the blue a reporter called him up and wanted to interview him for the Library of Congress. He was put into their archives telling his story about his Navy adventures during WWII.
He was also given a 3 pages spread in his neighborhood newspaper. Talk about a life changing experience. You are never too old to learn something new or to fulfill your dream.
Now he is, through the Library system going to different organizations and giving speeches about his reading achievement.
If you want to change your life, reach for the stars this is a man who has achieved all of that plus. His name is Robert H. Perez my friend of over twenty years, and I am very proud of him.
