Have you ever wanted to try something new but were afraid? This is quite normal. When you try something new you are afraid you will make a complete fool out of yourself. But if you do not try how do you know you will succeed?

Last night I took the plunge and did something I had never done before. I was scared, nervous and my ad reline was really pumping.

I have been a member of Toastmasters for five years. Toastmasters is a public speaking group. We meet once a week and work from an agenda. From the first meeting I fell in love with this group.
I did not think I would be able to stand in front of a group of people and give a speech but I did it over and over again.

Last year I became an Area Governor and this means that there are more than one club in one particular area. You are more or less the overseer of all of the clubs in the area number designated. There are many perks which go along with this job and title. You are considered a VIP at meetings and other club functions.

One of the duties of being an Area Governor is planning and organizing a large speech contest within your area. I had never done anything like this either but I managed to execute this duty two times.
During the contest I acted as an MC for half of the program. When I was asked by another Area Governor to be the Toastmaster of their contest, I was honored and immediately accepted. The Toastmaster literally MC's most of the show.

Last night was the area contest. I was nervous and excited. I brought along a friend who had been in Toastmasters years ago for moral support and also to enjoy a fun evening.
I managed to be the best MC I could be, and I did make a mistake in the program presentation in the first part of the program, but I did not repeat the mistake in the second part of the program. I felt proud of myself and my self-esteem soared.

I did it and so can you. I took a chance and now I would like to repeat this role again and do a better job since I have learned from my mistakes.
